Dexter once did a very strange and sad interview with the Heavy Fuel Crew back in the day. It sure seemed like he was coked out of his mind. I remember him claiming that he'd been conversing with Marilyn Monroe. One of the legit craziest things I've ever heard on radio.

I always found it oddly funny that Ditka (who probably can't spell) hit Manley with the "Manley couldn't spell cat if you spotted him the c and the a". When I heard about Manley's limited education, I just thought that it made Ditka seem even more like an asshole than he already was.

I was at a DePaul-Notre Dame game at the Horizon in the mid-late 80s and about 5 rows behind the ND bench. A DePaul student like 10 seats down had a huge sign that said "LaFonso Can U Reed Dis?" as in LaPhonso Ellis. So close that Ellis couldn't have missed it. I guess he was one of those 11 on the ACT guys. Still bothers me to this day.

Earlier today I saw some kid listed as a "Consumer Science" major & chuckled. As a kid, Hotel Mgmt. was the one that always got me. But I understood. And appreciated that they were getting something, but that it really wasn't education. The kids that loudly (& crassly) pulled that crap with guys like LaPhonso, Todd Marinovich or Patrick Ewing always seemed like pond scum.

Manley had a beef with everybody back then.
He was a badass football player, but he was a living mess.

Yeah..Ditka is a meathead, an arrogant one @ that. What I found interesting was how Dexter enrolled in a class to learn to read-write the day after The Theisman injury..it scared him. He would walk around wih a wall street journal n pretend to read. 38 rehab stints to kick Coke n he did it..9 years clean, I liked the part where his new boss bought back his Superbowl ring from the pawn shop for him..
