THats obviously not true. Just about everything was relevant, whether it be for character development or story development. You'd be hard pressed to find anything that wasn't relevant, but good try I guess.
It wasn't relevant to TWD. Your point was that it wouldn't improve TWD to know.

Well, this show doesn't improve TWD. Rick and his crew don't even know these guys exist.

I have no idea what you're talking about or what point you're trying to make in this post. What does FTWD have to do with TWD?????

I agree about the beginning, but not the origin.

I dont really separate the two. If they started with patient zero or whatever and showed the outbreak and all that happened when people found out. (like the Youtube video of the EMT getting attacked and people aruging about it being fake. Needed more of that stuff.

I dont need a second Walking Dead show. That's what this feels like now.

People wanted FWD to explain the origin of the zombies in TWD.

You seem to be saying that FWD is just a copy of TWD and it really shouldn't give us any more information. That just doesn't excite me much.

This guy gets it.

I was hoping this would improve my experience of TWD.

I was hoping for this to be similar to "Better Caul Saul" which adds to the Breaking Bad universe. If FWD was never created, I'd be at roughly the same place as I am now in regards to what happens on TWD.

I don't agree about the patient zero origin stuff, but I 100% agree with the other stuff. But, that shouldn't be a surprise, I've been saying that all along. I liked the show, but that's cause I was able to quickly pivot off the disapointment of days 2-8 being skipped.

Take out the stuff about patient zero and the origin and RPB isn't saying anything that every other person in this thread isn't saying as well. Yes, we all agree that we wanted the show to focus on the initial days of the outbreak, but only a couple of us are saying that they wanted to see the origin as well.

Something fishy about that guy, I'm sure there is a lot more than meets the eye. Why was he locked up at the military base in the first place????

I could see him being responsible for, or knowing about the origin of, the outbreak somehow. Maybe he distributed some tainted drug.

Seeing all the dead whales was probably a big clue as to the origin, though - probably stems from some sort of mutant algae entering the water supply or something.

I think you're getting your shows mixed up. The whale scene was from "Last Man on Earth", also on last night. Understandable mistake.

As for the black guy having a part in the origin, that would only work if he was able to give that tainted drug to every single person in the world since everyone is already infected.

Brings up an interesting question for the posters here.....

With already already infected, how do you suppose the infection happened? Is it man made? Natural freak occurrence? I would love to hear theories as to how it happened. I personally would rule out man made. I can't think of a way that man would infect the entire world's population and do it in such a way that everyone ends up infected at about the same time.

I'm thinking global warming or some other type of world wide event that changes the atmosphere in some way or opens up the atmosphere to a new kind of radiation. Can't think of another way you could infect everyone at the same time.

Yes.

What's so funny? What am I missing? Is there a way to infect the entire population of the world at basically the same time? My mind is drawing a blank on any similar type of man made disease that fits those parameters.

Aren't you asking about the origin of the outbreak?

Sure, why not? Been a fan a long time and never once thought about the origin. Now, with this thread I read posts from people wanting to know about it so why not put our heads together and try and figure out what origin theories would work and what ones wouldn't.

having knowledge of the origin does nothing for the shows, but it can't hurt to do a little fan fiction speculating as to what that origin could be.

What we know:

-everyone is already infected with the dormant zombie virus. Upon death the virus becomes active.
-bites don't kill you, but the infections they cause have 100% mortality rate.

based on what we know, what do you think are plausible origin theories? For now, I'm thinking atmospheric change which led to a previously non existent radiation to enter the atmosphere and infect all human beings with the zombie virus. But, even that theory has some scientific holes I would imagine. For instance, is it possible for the atmosphere to deteriorate at such a rapid rate as to allow a sudden acute exposure to a certain radiation? What I'm trying to say is that you would think that atmospheric deterioration and radiation exposure would be a gradual slow process which wouldn't work for our scenario since we need everyone to be infected all at once.

The biggest clue to me is that the drug addicts seemingly got it first unless of course the idea is that it was an overdose death which then led to the first change we know of.

Another possible cause, knowing they didn't actually hint at any of this, would be some sort of meteor with a water landing.

There also is the concept of the government infecting everyone with a virus they can control eventually mutating to resist the control of it.

Regarding the first one, I don't agree that drug addicts got it first. We just saw a drug addict get it first. I believe that was an overdose death and then she turned into a zombie. If it was laced drugs then wouldn't Nick have become a zombie as well? Also, as we already know, everyone is infected at the same time so that makes the first scenario impossible.

As for the meteor, that's interesting. I don't know the science, but I assume we're talking about an alien bacteria transported by a meteor? If that's the case, wouldn't it have to be a fairly large meteor? I would think that we would've heard some chatter in the background about a large meteor crashing in the days preceeding the zombie outbreak.

The military thing is the one that everyone defaults to. It worked in "The Stand", but that was a virus that was spread from person to person starting with an identifiable patient zero. I'd be interested in hearing the science behind how the military would go about infecting the world's population. What if something was dumped into the middle of the ocean? Would that get the job done? I would imagine no since it would lead to more to a gradual infection as opposed to an acute occurrence. i would think it has to be something in the air...worldwide. I can't think of any workable scenario, but I'm not a science guy.

I don't believe it would have to be huge but there is radar that tracks those things too. It is also possible that it took a while to fully spread afterwards maybe going through animals first.

I believe there has been research on viruses with a kill switch. Basically, a virus that can be turned off. I doubt it went anywhere though.

Realistically, all they'd have to do is copy the conspiracy theories about Lyme disease. I guess they could say that an infected dying made it hugely airborne so you'd only need one person to travel to an area to infect the whole area.

Flight 762 was more engaging in its one minute than this series has been in six hours. I like this series enough but that immediately had me wanting more.

maybe something with genetically modified crops....something about their resistance to pests and disease

Do we really know that everyone is infected. We know that the guy at the CDC THINKS everyone is infected. However, his research was limited and performed under duress.

Here's where I think FWD should go. Next season, find out that there is a cure that would have to be administered within, say, 4 hours.

So now we can recontextualize that TWD with Rick & the gang are just straight up murdering people with abandon. Also, even though there is a cure, civilization has crumbled to the point that production of said cure is nearly impossible. The group need to get somewhere with the formula or samples of the cure would probably be better from a drama POV as maybe they keep breaking their supply before their destination.

They could spend time trying to figure out where to go with this information and samples. You could do a lot of things with that and it would inform the watching of TWD by making it even more tragic without actually influencing the storyline directly. Also, now you are telling a completely different type of story than TWD.

CDC guy said everyone is already infected. Plus, every person who has died has come back without exception. Seems pretty safe to say that CDC guy was right.

Don't quit your day job.

Besides, considering how much this would change the optics for viewers of TWD there's no way they would do something like that. Last thing they need or want is fans sitting there during every TWD episode tweeting about how stupid the characters are for killing so and so cause don't they know there's a cure!!?!?!!?

Strand said he was prepared for something like this. I'm sure that yacht is going to take them to what they think is a secure island or location

It will be interesting to see how long the yacht sticks around. Although it would be cool to have your very own luxury yacht to tool around the apocalypse in, it doesn't really convey the suffering that is key to this world. But, hopefully we will at least get to answer the age old question, can zombies swim? Obviously they can't swim, but what happens when they end up in the water? Do they just float away or do they walk along the bottom till they reach land? Lets just say I'd be very hesitant to do any swimming in shallow water.

in reality, you could just leave that yacht anchored where it is and hope to ride the whole thing out. Sure it would get boring but you could go ashore when you wanted and see danger from a mile out. They are in a bay so they could even ride out a storm, if it ever actually rains in California again.
