for completing the second greatest season ever posted by a Cub pitcher. He is surpassed only by the Immortal Dick Ellsworth's 1963 season.

I don't have anything better to do. That's a little different than fans of a team who just made the playoffs being more interested in Mark Parent.

I flipped my Ray Rayner 2-sided hat to the Cubs long enough this morning to salute Jake. Well done, JA and the Northsiders.

I now flip it back to the Sox side to honor the last game of the season. I hope they can put something together in the off season to succeed because they broke the black & white side of my heart this year.

After today, I will flip it around and root root root for the Cubbies because I love Chicago baseball and I hope the Blue faithful truly enjoy Wednesday and beyond. I am truly happy for the Cubs Diehards.

I hope he suffers forever.

Thirteen year career with two winning seasons. 10.2 WAR in '63 though.

Alexei career WAR 22.6.

Ellsworth career WAR 23.3

So which is it, either Ellsworth had a decent career or Alexei didn't?

You can't have your bullshit both ways.

WAR isn't a real thing. In fact, "experts" can't even agree on what WAR is.

You're very tense. The pressure is building toward 19:08 this evening.

And in that they are widely accepted and used as metrics to judge players' impact to a team's effort. Sure, bWAR and fWAR differ, and I have my preferred metric, but they are close enough that either can give you a fairly accurate answer as to 'who might be helping a team win more.' WAR used by itself may not be the answer, but thst is the case with any stat or metric.

No, in that they are subjective numbers masquerading as objectivity. Just because they are fashionable doesn't lend them credibility.

I've been told that "clutch" did not exist by SABRmetricians for ten years, but now they have developed a stats that shows the "clutchness" of Anthony Rizzo.

It's all horseshit. You know who the good players are. Dick Ellsworth sucked. Alexei Ramirez is decidedly average. Mike Trout is great. I don't need dueling WARs to figure that out.

Anyway, even if you think WAR is the greatest thing since sliced bread, comparing WAR numbers over a career is pretty silly. Ellsworth amassed almost half of his in a single season.

So?

Career home runs still count as a total even if someone hit way more of them in one year than any of the others.
