Your meager salary can't spring for Gibson's. It isn't exactly a Madison Applebees.

I took the wife there ONCE. I was unimpressed with the service.

Suprised to hear that, its something they strive for, however, should always go to Hugos next door, just a little less formal, same food, better people.

Might actually say, never been to a place the provides better service the Gibsons/Hugos and have many examples of them going overboard to accomodate people.

The problem I have with the Gibson's group is that they are always trying to upsell you on something and will try to shame big groups into spending money.

Upselling is definitely part of their game. But it works. Still, I like the more low key approach at David Burke's. I actually had a waiter say, "Bro, you don't need any more sides." That could probably get you fired at Gibsons. Hell, maybe at Burke's too.

Which goes with the whole vibe of the "big night out" and thus would be surprised if the service is an issue when they want to food out ASAP.

Those waiters make a decent living there, so not surprised.

Often eat at the bar tables at Hugos. Drop a $20, get a bar table quick. Haw Ya doin?

I hate places like that.

It's probably irrational, but I'd rather the entree cost $50 and included the sides.

But I'm strange, and enjoy the sides more than the steak so I guess I could always just order 3 $10 baked potatoes.

i hear you
i don't mind the a la carte nature so much as the portion sizes are ridiculously huge and meant to be shared...i don't want to share a goddamn baked potato. i want my own. same thing with dessert...order a piece of cake and it's literally 1/3 of an entire cake

David Burke's I found very underwhelming.

The one time at ate at Gibson's, I thought it was the best meal of my life and worth every penny

Yeah, they both have good steaks. Stoney River in Deer Park has good steaks too. A bit further out from the city, but good food.

HELEN: We gotta catch the early-bird. It's only between four-thirty and six.

MORTY: Yeah. They give you a tenderloin, a salad and a baked potato, for $4.95. You know what that costs you after six?

Hugos and Gibsons share the same kitchen, the same food, the same grill. I know the guy who did the lease when Hugos started. Very good source!

The menus are ultra similar, just an example...HUGOs will have blackened Swordfish with Pico, its not on the Gibsons menu, Hugos has skirt steak, dont think it is on the Gibsons menu.

I think more people walk into Gibsons in suits, and more people walk into HUGOS in jeans and a nice shirt. Hugos has the Pianoman playing Billy Joel stuff and so on...

It's not a matter of "having". Downtown is part of the ambience when eating an upscale dinner in my opinion.
