Did you really just call a snake a "pet"?

:?:

I mean, it's an animal purchased/acquired to be taken into one's home to be fed and cared for ... regardless of how distasteful it may seem if said animal is a snake (quite a bit, in my case), is there an obviously better word for it than 'pet'?

No, sir. You get drunkards and just straight-up weird callers peppered throughout Les' show. He's not condescending. He's not screamy. He tells good stories.

I think I'm going to use this as my signature from now on. Fun to read without context.

Oh, I got no qualms with Les.

Actually, I should start listening. Last night would have been perfect - baby was up from 12 - 2.

Yeah, and when you have the week off, you are responsible for the baby during the night, no matter how much you drank that day. #bogus

My fiancee works nights, so a few days a week, he's all mine overnight. Those are the days that I wake up at 5 a.m. so I can go to work early, so I can be off early to allow her to nap before her shift. Thus far we've been able to do all of this without daycare. See how long that lasts.

That's a rough schedule, but not having to pay for day care must be nice.

Yep. The costs are insane, so we're hoping to keep this schedule. Though tax season starts in a few months, and this schedule might kill me then.

We had the chance to do something similar, ( me working nights) to avoid the daycare expense but in the end decided seeing each other at the opposite ends of the clock only wasn't worth it. Its a major fucking expense so I can certainly see why people do it.

Jesus, day care is ridiculous. It's basically a small mortgage payment. My wife went back to work because she wanted to get out of the house, but her salary is completely negated by day care. There's actually no point in her working other than she just wants to. I really had no idea day care was this much before having a kid.

We waited to have kids for precisely that reason. My wife doesn't work, and it has been a Godsend. I read the book the two income trap, and it is really outlines the entire struggle with one or two family incomes.

Inquiring minds want to know, how much IS day care now? When my now 18 yr old was a toddler, higher end day care was around $225-250 for three partial days. But they promised lots of structured (?) learning opportunities, French or Mandarin and other stuff, blah, blah, blah. I never could figure what in the hell they thought I would do with a 18 month old during the workweek.

Thank God there was a good family friend that did daycare in her semi-retirement.

I think you had mentioned that book before. Maybe I'll check it out.

Are Goff and Spiegel over yet?

Waiting for noon, as the title says to switch over to Kap. For the rest of yall, it'll be around 1:00 I think.

I just realized Elizabeth Warren wrote the book. It is an older book, so she wasn't famous at the time.

It can easily reach $500 or $600 a week in our area. When we lived in CT and were looking at day care, it was even more expensive there.

Ours is like $425 a week but we have some sort of deal where if she only goes 3 or 4 days, they reduce it by some amount, but I honestly think they're full of shit because I haven't seen any reduction on those weeks.

Ours is a "nice" day care... not bad but not one of those places that promises to make your kid some sort of savant by age two. I agree with you - not sure how much mental stimulation one can give to a baby that's so young she just shits and eats all day.

Day Care is off the charts expensive. The worst part is the teachers (Babysitters) are very low paid.

Ikr. It was actually very well written. The big takeaway for me was that logic says two income families are more financially secure. But in reality they are not. You figure with two families, if one person is sick or loses a job you still have another income. However, two income families build their lifestyles such that they require both incomes. So if one person loses a job in a two income family, they are still strapped badly and only one person is looking for a job. In a one income family, both spouses can look for a job.

Can't imagine how losing a job might affect one's ability to donate to his/her temple.

I had no idea it would now reach that high.

But given what I was presented with 16-17 years ago, I guess it figures in some perverse way. Wow. Just wow.

I only just was made aware that there are actual churches that will ask to see your W-2s. And that many will forward them.

My neighbors have twins and pay $800+/week for a nanny.
