i haven't personally ran into any marathon related bullshit when i've gone to the city, but having dealt with some in my hometown of elk grove when they do their bike race BS i can only imagine how much exponentially worse it must be in chicago with a 26.2mi course in a much more dense population area. i tip my proverbial/cap to all of you out there who gotta #FOCUS and soldier through the bullshit related to this mostly-vanity crap.

so unless you can run a marathon in 2:20:00 or so, it is a non-accomplishment?

for the record I'm not into big event races like this that fuck up traffic, nor have i yet run a marathon. but when i do i want to know at what point it will become an accomplishment. i may need to re-calibrate my training.

I would consider running .2 miles an accomplishment.

The 26 after that is just ego.

2) Des Plaines River Trail in Lake County
3) Chicagoland Spring marathon in Schaumburg

My favorite was Fox Valley. Easy Parking, Good crowd, ample water and aid stations.
Fuck the Chicago Marathon.

i ran in a big event race once and thanks but no thanks, running in that crowd was not for me. my first marathon will be a low-key affair where i can suffer in peace and quiet.

it i ran 26 miles anywhere, yes, i would consider that an accomplishment. winning a race is certainly a big accomplishment.

Oh fuck, I wanted to drive down and go into the (loop) office on Saturday and tidy things up, do expense reports, etc. Breakfast at Manny's, a half day in the office, a stroll up to the Water Tower area... a nice quiet fall Saturday before Cubs-Cards game 2.

And now all these fuckers are going to mess it up for me. May they pull hamstrings.

1) Isn't rush hour always fucked up?

2) Marathon is the same weekend every year. Sunday before Columbus Day. You can plan for it. Leave town or take metra or the CTA. To help you remember they sell these things vv at the store. They are helpful.

3) "Thank you non-athletes for aiding Chicago's' broke economy this weekend." (Although probably not as much as Rahm would have you believe.)
