I grew up watching Jenkins vs. Gibson so I'm sensitive to this:

Bob Gibson was 3-5 against Ferguson Jenkins.

You use Fergie as the comparison 'round these parts.

A slap in the face. It reminds me of when the Blackhawks hired Vladislov Tretiak as
a goalie coach when their own Tony Esposito bested Tretiak in the World Cup.

Marichal is the best pitcher on that card.

Schwarber's homerun was simiilar to Kirk Gibsons in 88

What means nothing to you does not mean my feeling on the subject are false.

I did not like hearing bouquets thrown at a Cardinal pitcher at a Cubs playoff presser.

1.12 era for an entire year. So dominant that they lowered the mounds.

I agree. Comparison to Arietta is silly.

Congrats on the big win though.

I know Crest, I was going for "bad comparisons involving Gibsons"

The Gibson homer is my favorite non Chicago Sports moment

I also respected Marichal and Gibson, but Jenkins will always be the greatest starting pitcher in Cubs history. It was a disgrace that the Cubs organization waited for Maddux (also wore 31) to retire before retiring Fergie's number.

It's right up there for me as well.

And Fergie was a pothead jimmy, that is why his number wasn't retired until Maddux.

That fantastic 1963 season was before my time but after you mentioned him I looked it up. It was one hell of a year!

Funny, I can picture you as an infant in a high chair reading the box scores with your Gerber cereal in front of you.
