Hate the Chicago Cubs but love free beer? A bar on the South Side of Chicago has you covered. McNally's, a bar notorious for taunting the Cubs, is giving out free beer any time the St. Louis Cardinals hit a home run against the club during the upcoming NLDS.

This is far from the first time McNally's has taken a shot at the team from the North Side, according to DNAInfo.com. Shortly after Jake Arrieta shut out the Pittsburgh Pirates in the NL wild-card game, the bar featured a sign reading, "Cub Fans, Who's Gonna Pitch Now?" Inside the bar, a picture of the Wrigley Field marquee displaying "Congratulations to the 2005 Chicago White Sox" is prominently displayed.

The relationship between fans of the two teams is somewhat complicated. There's certainly a rivalry, but the franchises don't play enough to really make either team a hated competitor. Still, the fact that there are two teams in one city is enough to make some fans refuse to root for the other club.

At the same time, there will be a contingent of White Sox fans who are happy the Cubs are finally getting a chance in the playoffs. McNally's isn't aimed at these fans.

We have to say, the free-beer promotion is pretty fun. While it will alienate certain fans, at least it's not mean-spirited. They won't parade a goat through the bar if the Cubs are losing, and they aren't passing out Steve Bartman glasses during games. Nope, your reward for watching the games is free beer. That's neat.

So, bitter White Sox fans (or happy Cardinals fans), you finally have a place in Chicago to gather and enjoy yourselves during the postseason. It's rare for fans of Chicago and St. Louis to come together for the same cause, but McNally's has found a way.

Well, since Arrieta has not surrendered a HR to any of the teams that qualified for the playoffs this season, I would say that fans looking for free beer might want to skip the trip over there on Monday.

Also, do not like the fans of the other team. That might be a bigger piece of the pie.

This one is actually fairly harmless and amusing.

It's ok if people are rooting against the Cubs.

Nah..the only thing that shitty tavern is known for is drunk patrons (usually cops) getting hit by cars trying to cross Western ave at 3 a.m.

Cubs fans get really concerned with the White Sox and their fan base. When you call them on it they get SUPER defensive.

Example: There was a guy in the Pirates v Cubs thread that took it to White Sox fans and was pretty worried about what they were thinking about the Cubs. That guy was made to look like a fool.

It's all very amusing.

I remember 2005 when the bars in Wrigleyville would have Sox playoff specials. It's just smart business.

Did you expect anything different from a cop owned bar in Morgan Park?

Pretty typical of the eternally bitter, inferiority complex ridden Sox fan base.

1907 & 1908 also Championship seasons..... for the Cubs. They are all just history now. Once a Championship is a decade old, it's time to stop referring to it as if it is current and relevant to anything going on today.

As long as you are not a Black White Sox fan.

Don't be jealous. Let us have our moment.

Yours is surely coming and you'll never have to worry about 2005 again.

By all means, have your moment...Hell, I wish the Sox would have won more...I don't hate them. I was quite jealous of the teams they were putting together back then...during the "the kids can play" days. The Cubs were busy pissing away a nice open window of their own at the time.

Rooting against the Cubs is so ingrained in many Sox fans, they'd rather worry and complain about the Cubs than relish their own success. I saw it all the time back then...not to mention before 2005 and since.

It's too bad Sox fans worry so much about another teams situation rather than supporting their own.
