Should the Cubs dispatch the Cardinals, which team would you prefer to face? With Greinke and Kershaw, the Dodgers have 2 of the best regular season pitchers. Though Kershaw was good in his start in his start VS the Mets, he lost and gave up 3 runs (4.05 ERA for 6 2/3 innings work). After Greinke and Kershaw, the pitching is not great and Kershaw has not been Kershaw in the post season. The Mets offense is not as good in my opinion (though Cespedes was a great addition) but their Rotation is much deeper in Quality starters, with deGrom among the top starters in the league. I would rather they get the Dodgers if they advance.

For the record, Cubs would kick the shit out the Mets. Dodgers would be a tough one.

Last time I rooted for the Cubs to play one team over another, was 2003. I'm not making that same mistake again.

The Mets position players are Cespedes, Wright and then a bunch of bums. Their top two starters are power pitchers who throw mainly fastballs and the Cubs love that shit. Matt Harvey is their #3 and a delicate little flower.

lol steve, i KNOW i said this in one of my TLDR posts near the end of the game 2 thread.... but basically the dodgers have the sexy name value of kershaw and greinke at the top of their rotation and then *farting noise* whereas the mets have degrom and syndergaard (who respectively beat kershaw and essentially matched greinke) but then the mets turn around and have matt harvey nad maybe even steven matz while the dodgers have that farting noise.

on paper i reckon the dodgers have a better offense..... adrian gonzalez had a similar # of homeruns but declined from 117RBI in 2014 to ~90 in 2015, and yasiel puig is a lost cause for 2015... and it seems like all that wonderful depth the dodgers had (remember that period of time where you never saw alex guerrero and superman in the same room at the same time?) has kind of leveled out (tho i think justin turner is FINALLY an everyday player.... good job being proactive donnie baseball!) and right now they're just kind of there by default and if you can beat kershaw and/or greinke i reckon they're gonna have problems.

also i think the mets have more of that "team of destiny" thing going on, cuz every year (especially lately in the $$$guggenheim$$$ era) it just feels like the dodgers are there by default, and while the mets prsumably have good young pitching to the extent that for them i reckon this is the beginning of a really good era of mets baseball in much the same way it is for the cubs, still the way cespedes came over @ midseason and like .294/17/44 in 54 games and the way wright came back and has been getting big hits and d'arnaud hasn't been injured for a couple'a months while granderson had a really nice year and david murphy quietly had his best year and rah rah rah.... yeah this very well could be "their year" --- and if they managed to escape the 7th inning with the lead tonight i'd call this series to the mets, but that was a huge 2-1 lead to blow cuz if you go up 2-0 on the dodgers in a 5 game series having beaten kershaw and greinke well THIS BALLGAME IS OVAH.

still tho, you gotta like the mets' chances throwing out harvey and then either matz/degrom in game 4.... idk the logistics for games 4/5, but i think brett anderson is toeing the rubber against matt harvey? man if we get good/vintage-ish harvey out there you gotta think the dodgers are going to be looking at an elimination game pretty soon here... but harvey isnt quite 2013 OMFG IT'S MATT FUCKING HARVEY good and he has plenty of those games where he gives up 2-3HR and it's like 4ER in 6IP or worse, so it's not the automatic "oh shit" situation like you woulda had pre-TJ for harvey.... you know, like when arrieta pitches for the cubs.

all that said, i still think you'd default to saying that you'd rather face the mets? but idk here.... the dodgers dont captivate me and i think they're vulnerable after kershaw/greinke, so i'm guessing you want the dodgers despite their ballyhooed 1-2 punch at the top of the rotation.... there's no "team of destiny" shit with them and they're just kind of there like "hey when you spend 200-250mil on payroll and have 25mil/yr 4th OFs you better be playing in at least mid-october" and i dont think there's anything especially dangerous or OMFG about them..... nor is there any team of destiny stuff. they're just the doyers and they're doing what they do.

so you'd rather face the dodgers..... however i still think either way if the cubs can beat STL it's getting to the point where they better win the world series this year cuz if you can see the blue jays (a team that DESPERATELY wants to be a team of destiny) and the royals fall off in the DS.... man, astros/rangers/dodgers-or-mets/cubs in the final 4? man that's just begging you to win the fucking world series and kick off the apocalypse already!

ALSO, POSTING IN AN ELMHURST STEEV THREAD!

yeah i love it when steev-oh intentionally misspells non-white guys' names like "i dont know about all that stuff... i'm used to good ol fashioned names like TUCKER, SMITH, and WHITE. abreau? martin luthor king jr? i dont know about those * shit eating grin * nooo i sure don't!

Thought about this the other day....what is / would be the home field situation? Would dodgers or mets get the extra game because they won division? And...not assuming anything with the cardinals. Just wondering

yeah i'm pretty damn sure there is a status quo / caste-system where division winners > wildcard winners because if there wasnt then there's no way in hell the cardinals (best record in baseball) are in the NLDS taking on the playoff team with the 2nd best record in the playoffs (cuz IIRC the cards/pir8s/cubs finished 1/2/3/ in terms of best record in baseball)

so without a shadow of a doubt the mets/dodgers will have homefield over the cubs/cubs. lol i bet you thought i was gonna say cubs/cardinals, but comeon now i'm not one of those mouthbreathing inbreds who think the cardinals have a chance! #NotGonnaHappen cuz #ItsGonnaHappen!

Okay, so now that the cubs have clinched and the Dodgers and Mets are knotted at 2 games each, do we want the Cubs to play the Mets, who they dominated this year, but have greater quality pitching depth. or the Dodgers, who have a better lineup, especially after the Mets lost their SS? I guess I have to say Mets.

We would be catching the Dodgers when their best arms are overused. I don't really care about who they play. Just happy to be here.

That is a shit attitude.

Even though the Cubs played quite a different Mets team, I think the confidence the Cubs have after going 7-0 against them in the regular season would carry over. Confidence is key.

That being said, I prefer the Cubs going against the Dodgers SP (even with Kershaw and Greinke) rather than the Mets' deep staff. I'm also less intimidated by the Dodger lineup.

Can you imagine how fans in those cities are viewing the Cubs? Hitting 6 homers in a single playoff game.....beating the 98 win Pirates and then the 100 win Cardinals and having Arrieta beginning the NLCS for them??

The same way we're viewing the Mets and Dodgers.

No one is "scared" of the Cubs.

I think it's a flip of a coin. Very even teams.

The Mets are a much different team than when the Cubs faced them and humiliated them 7 out of 7.
While they're a much different team they still have those stud young pitchers which the Cubs did fairly well against.

The big 2 of the Dodgers is certainly a concern. And I think their offense has a little more fire power than the Mets.

So I guess I should pick the Mets but then I factor in dealing with their King of Queens fans that have a somewhat similar vibe to some folks around here.
I'm back to bring on whoever, neither team is as good as the Pirates or Cardinals and the Cubs did alright with them.

Of the games I've watched so far, deGrom looks the nastiest by far. Don't know if I'd want to see him 2x in a 7 gamer.
