How many youth group members were sacrificed at the Matheny household tonight?

maybe it was in a message to JORR, cuz believe it or not the dude really knows his baseball and it's a shame he's always putting on a schtick/act/etc on the board proper cuz he comes off like this old curmudgeon (CSFMB's very own hawkeroo if you will) but in reality the dude is way more dynamic and knowledgeable about baseball than he lets off in the confines of cubs/sox shitposting.... i just know i was telling ppl (maybe even on IRC) that the magic pixie dust had worn off of jaime garcia and the cubs should be able to get at least 3-4 runs off of him if they hit normally / didn't-choke. and indeed they did.

i also said that greinke isn't kershaw nor is he as good as super-arrieta is right now and i said that greinke will give you 2 or 3 runs to work with so you just gotta outpitch him.... and here we are heading into the bottom of the 7th and hey look greinke gave up 2 runs thus far! it's like i've got a crystal ball lodged up my ass or something.....

....or i just really pay attention to baseball for my fantasy baseball empire, and seeing as my main team has a rotation of kershaw/bumgarner/fernandez/degrom/syndergaard/matz/mccullers/raisel-iglesias/etc and i rode the jaime garcia express in a bunch of my regular leagues, yeah, i'm up on statistical trends and given my caretaking gig i've had a lot of time to watch my baseball and scout out the #s/statistical-trends with the ol eye test and i can tell you whats what.

ah well c'est la vie steve-o. you're campaigning hard to be MR. CUB aka MR. OCTOBER here on the board and god bless your soul, but if you ever wanna be MR. CSFMB you're gonna have to pry that hat away from darkside's cold dead hands.... which means you're also going to have to pry off terry's peeps (aka the master of infinite metaposting) and his iron grip off of the MR. CSFMB hat in darko's cold dead hands, cuz i think he wants the title back from darko. this cold war should be fascinating!

Oh, so it was never actually posted until AFTER todays game. Wow, that 20/20 hindsight stuff is really accurate! By the way, I am not campaigning for shit. I am into baseball and particularly Cubs Baseball and have been for many, many years. I am posting a lot of late, as it's a pretty exciting time for Cub fans. But I have no desire to compete for any CSFMB titles and I think after the Baseball season is over, you will notice my posting decreases again dramatically.

I had the "pleasure" of watching the Cardinals postgame show since we are in central IL for the weekend. Overall, they were fine and complimentary of the Cubs.

One thing, though - Edmonds was sure that Garcia would have gotten Jackson at home if he'd gone home with it on Hendricks' bunt. He actually said he could have run it home and tagged Jackson himself.

I know there's no way he could have tagged Jackson himself, but I don't think he could have gotten him even if he'd thrown home. Does anyone think he could have gotten Jackson at home?

dude, wtf are you talking about? just last night you went and took what i was saying about the mets and dodgers and went and championed my thoughts in your own thread.... and now i have to go and present all of my baseball thoughts in a 100.0% public forum for your approval b4 they happen lest i be accused of "20/20 hindsight" or some shit that says "i'm not on the ball like that maven for baseball thought elmhurst "love me hate me paint me pay me" fucking steve?

for added fun you can go dig up some threads in the cubs forum from april/march 2014 where i said the cubs should go grab this kid from colorado named corey dickerson cuz the rockies have a logjam in the OF (and as it turned out, they really wanted to have 2nd round draft pick charlie blackmon, free agent acquisition drew stubbs, and "carlos freaking gonzalez" carlos gonzalez succeed in their 2014 OF, so they kept stacking the odds against corey but even with early demotions and regular pinch hitting duties and maybe 1 start a week til injuries set in well hey whaddya know.... all he did was force his way into the everyday lineup and have a .900+ OPS!!!!! not bad for a 29th round draft pick, eh?) AHEM.... and he'd be dirt cheap and then you can stick him in left and have a .900+ OPS bat out there.... and i even was drafting him in the 18th round of my superdeep league drafts.... and all he did was .315/24/76 or something with a .900+ OPS in 2014 (plantar fasciatis derailed his 2015 season, but if you want a slick little buy low for 2016 fantasy baseball my guy "hard dick" is your guy)

so yeah steve, i get that you wanna up "mr. baseball know it all" over here, esp as you're putting in work on being the board's mr. cub and all and you wanna rebrand yourself from being the board's pet racist (or maybe even their token racist mascot?) and god bless ya man i mean good luck on the quest and all cuz it's not like it's not a noble cause on some level/s, but still man acting like i'm gonna show up and start claiming bullshit so i can look good in retrospect = #ComeonSon territory cuz there's a reason why the board put up with my zany TLDR bullshit for awhile when i was pretty much ubiquitously unbearable: i'm not a complete dumbass; i have pretty damn good thoughts occasionally when i actually have thoughts!

well like i said b4 in terms of your board titles, you get to pretty much pick whether you're the board's token pet racist or whether you're the board's racist mascot, and whether or not you're a 100%-by-definition racist is immaterial..... the board pretty much knows you are and always will treat you like that, much like patrick kane is a rapist forever in the eyes of SOCJUS.

but yeah dude comeon it's obvious that you just strolled in during playoff time to unleash a shit-ton of cub thoughts in an attempt to endear yourselves to the cubs fans here and show that much like "there's mooooorrreeeee than cooooooooorn in indiana!!!!" that "there's mooorrreee than raaaaaaaCISmmmm in Elmhurst!" and like, shit, i guess i get that you can't even cop to that, but i mean comeon dude it is what it is. and you ain't gonna knock my baseball cred cuz i know a thing or two about this shit like i aint the back to back sandlot league champions still mental that i fucked up the jerad eickhoff situation!

Stand up and be counted if you think Renteria or Sveum would have called 2 safety squeezes in a row.

I think he could have, but no guarantee he could throw it home accurately either. Might as well take the out at first expecting to be able to score off Hendricks. Cards lost that double header to the Cubs in Wrigley the same way, bad throws to bases by the pitcher. Obviously Maddon sees something.

one thing an anonymous baseball fan told me about cubs/cubbie-fandom is you'll notice that stl has their share of kids/rookies stepping up and doing big things in big spots (piscotty, pham[27y/o tho]. etc) but they're not heralded as the next babe ruth or even THE BEST 1B/RF IN THE STATE or anything, they're just kids who did good without there being a mandatory marriage to a term as some sort of the next [ALL-TIME GREAT].... you know, just like the cubs recently nicked a $3mil 20 y/o cuban andruw jones to patrol center for the next 15+ years!

all that said, don't bury the lede here... i honestly had a spontaneous reaction of YES! during the soler HR and that was the scariest thing that's ever happened to me cuz i can't forget my expos and i technically adopted the mets this year..... c'est la vie!

In a playoff game I'd bet they both would.

We'll never know though because neither ever got to manage in a meaningful game.

Sveum managed the Brewers against Philly in the 2008 playoffs, lost in 4.

Their games were meaningful.

They just lost way too many of them.
