5pm start is a factor if the sun is out. If it's cloudy, it won't matter obviously.

But I think the advantage goes to the Cardinals if there are shadows. Nobody can hit Arietta with shadows or without them. But the Cubs hitters will be bothered by them so it makes their pitcher more equal to Arrieta.

Sun doesn't go down until like 6:30. So that's half the game.

On October 12th at 5pm, the sun is already well below the Upper deck of the grandstand, I believe. Shadows between the pitchers mound and home plate should be extremely minimal, even without a cloud in the sky.

edit: I love tonight's lineup. Might be the best one Maddon can write out.

5pm start shouldn't be an issue because it's roughly equivalent to a night game in the middle of the season (when it'd get dark around 8-9pm or whatever) --- it's not as goofy as a 5pm start on the west coast IMO.

beautiful day tho and prolly the last ~75ish day of the year, as i'm seeing 51 degree highs forecasted later in the week..... so hey if the offense wants to swell up and do its thing tonight is the night. the cubs better not fuck this up tonight otherwise they're in a world of trouble, esp when they own wacha to the tune of a 6.86 ERA or something this year.

Ok. I forgot how the shadows play at Wrigley this time of year.

Honestly, I'm looking past this game already and I'm worried about Game 4. Hammel is awful and I don't want to face Lackey again in an elimination game in St. Louis.

Should be a great atmosphere, I'll be tuning in as I get out of here by 3. Really should be interesting to see how the wind actually plays
at game time. I guess the Cubs have the guy on the mound that should be able to limit the damage if he can keep up his stellar play.

At about noon it was blowing out to right center according to this website I go to. Not sure what it will be at game time.

I'm following it cuz I might take the OVER at 7.5. Cubs could get it by themselves now that I know the shadows won't be a factor.

The timing of all of this sucks - I'm going to miss almost all of the next two or three games. Tonight with meeting out of town guests at, you guessed it, 5pm. The game couldn't be the 3:30 or 7pm game, no.... So I figure it'll be an 11-8 slugfest.

Tuesday with a work flight at 3:30pm (at least I can follow on GameDay on the computer on the plane), and I'll miss the end of Game 5 should there need to be one with the corresponding work flight home.

Sadly, paying the mortgage comes ahead of watching the Cubs, at least until they're in the World Series.

My cousin's poor daughter, her wedding is in a couple of weeks and the reception will coincide with a NLCS Game 6. Bad planning.

Who is throwing out the first pitch? I think Ryno will be involved in one or the other. He supposedly is selling his house and moving to Chicago to work for the Cubs.
