I'm sure the "perpetual mult hunter" knows, or at least he'll speculate as if he knows.

Guess that's the end of Arrieta looking invincible. I doubt this lead holds. Cardinal Magic and all that shit.

Glad to see you are consistent during your playoff chatter.

Arrieta battled his ass off tonight without his best stuff. Love seeing that. Nice to see the bats come alive.

Cards going with Lackey on short rest shouts desperation.

I will gladly take my chances with him on short rest.

I wouldn't say nervous. Baseball is a fickle game, beating Arrieta and a team on such a roll as the Cubs would have been playing with house money. Just enjoy the ride when you can as a fan. There's another game tomorrow, until there isn't.

I'm watching today's game in public. I don't know why. I'm just going to be perpetually annoyed.

Last night's game took 2 years off my life.

I'd be completely OK with Hammel being given a 6 run lead before he goes out to pitch the 2nd.

I believe you're wrong about that. I think he was exactly the same as he has been the entire second half of the season. The way that ballpark was playing last night, allowing just four runs in six innings was a Herculean effort. This was a game that could easily have ended up like that 23-22 loss to the Phillies in '79 or their 26-23 win against them in 1922. Wacha pitched his ass off himself. Arrieta was almost superhuman. I think a lot of people will look at the walks he allowed and all the long counts and conclude that his control wasn't quite there. I think the real truth is that he knew he couldn't get too much of the plate or the ball was likely to end up on Waveland. This game is a really good argument for the value of W/L record for starting pitchers.

I think Brian Anderson is a solid announcer. He does Brewers games during the year, did a good job there back in my Brewer-watching days. I know he's not working this game, but I do not understand for the life of me what TBS sees in Cal Ripken Jr. other than name value. He has nothing to say.

The good thing about games on TBS is that you get up the next morning, the TV is still on TBS, and Married with Children is on! Marcy lost her wedding ring down a male stripper's pants!

I've always enjoyed Cubs vs Cardinals games here or in St. Louis.
While there's plenty of ugly Twitter wars the actual in person games are an intense but very friendly rivalry.
The pregame and post-game partying is the same.

Last night was no exception but I was blown away at the lack of Cardinal fans in attendance.
I think there were 2 remotely close to our section.

I see your point. 4 runs with the way the wind was blowing was quite the effort. It still did not look like he had his best stuff. Either way he battled his ass off.

Plate? He wasn't getting too much of the batters box.

Agreed. You could tell on TV the games in STL had little pockets of blue here and there. Wrigley was primarily blue and white. Sitting in center field bleachers there were only 3 Cards fans.

Usually Cardinals fans are good about coming up here for games (and then bitching about everything in Chicago; hey, you called us).

I had fun at the game yesterday with my dad. He is Bernstein's type of fan in that he does for the most part sit in contemplation of the event.

I kind of expected there to be more circuses outside of the stadium before the game. There was really nothing interesting going on. I seem to remember 2008 and 2003 to be almost carnivals outside the stadium.

I really like the bison dogs. They are more dense and surprisingly more flavorful than the regular hot dogs.

I am glad the papers reported on this today because that stadium was packed with alderman from every corner of this great city. I'm surprised some didn't buy at face and sell for a profit. I guess there is nothing unethical about it but it just seems questionable that a group that approved controversial additions that helped increase revenue get a perk from the group they granted the favor.

The game was exciting but not particularly well played. I have a feeling I am going to get aced out of any further games so it was fun to attend playoff baseball.

I like Montero's reaction. Everyone around him is going crazy and he just sitting there probably saying " we are good"
