Great game. Kerry Wood threw out the first pitch, Harry led the 7th inning stretch and the Cubs beat the Cardinals to advance to the NLCS. Doesn't get much better. I believe Rooney is wrong. I think playing in a division all year with the Cardinals and Pirates, who set the bar very high for the Cubs helped them. Similarly, playing the 98 win Pirates and the 100 win Cardinals in the playoff wildcard and NLDS series has them as focused and ready as can be. Having Arrieta open the next series and the team getting a few days to decompress should have them fresh for the NLCS. I will be at game 5 of the series. I am hoping it might be another series clincher.

Really? So after the Cardinals went ahead 2-0 in the first inning and you knew Lackey was pitching after dominating the Cubs in game 1 and now Hammel was getting knocked around......you never felt like the Cubs would lose? Hmmmmm.... gotta call bullshit on that one. Sure it was the first inning, a lot of game left. But Hammel had struggled a lot in the 2nd half of the season, already given up 2 runs after 2 hitters and Lackey had not given up a run to the Cubs in game one. To think they might lose at that moment would be reasonable. I was talking to several people around me at the game, who were thinking they were in deep doo doo. But that only made the win sweeter, as they came from behind to win. NEXT!

I see the fans are much different these days than the 'old style' cub fans like me. They seem more optimistic and don't believe in that curse crap. I'm use to the meek Cubs fan that when he enters the room, everyone feels sorry for him with his little cubs hat on his head and treats him like a injured fawn .

I much prefer my Cubs fans that way, as opposed to the ones who after winning a single playoff series now think their team is Yankee level.

I don't pay enough attention to know. 1985 seems like yesterday to me. I guess I'm not really that cognizant that there's an entire generation of fans that don't remember it. To me, it seems like the Bears have won recently, but maybe you're right. In fact, I'm sure you're right.

I don't know about younger Bears fans, but for guys my age, we know there will never be a team as good as the '85 team. That was something, it's hard to describe the way it felt to someone who didn't live it. And I'm not even a football fan. But it was bigger than football.

younger fans, no matter where you are or who they're a fan of, are going to aggravate the shit out of you. i remember going to a sox game in 2006 and what seemed like a busload of crotch goblins were in line for beer, all of them bitching about stuff and being assholes. it was just young arrogance, not necessarily fan arrogance. but it's hard to tell the difference sometimes.

when you see a table full of 50 year old grey hairs, whipping yellow towels around because their team got a first down in the first quarter of a game, then you know the fanbase is a piece of shit. obviously, those are steeler fans. but they've kind of earned the right to be pompous since they have such a rich history.

i see a bar full of bears fans whooping and hollering about winning a preseason game, i'm thinking...yeah, dumbasses. i mean, no different than the whodats who believed the saints would win the super bowl in the 2012 season simply because it was going to be in new orleans, even though we started the season 0-4.

Better than the Yankees. I don't see what time they are playing today.

They may not be historically, but they are the better team presently. Better today, with a future that looks decidedly better. The Yankees best hitters this season were Alex Rodriguez and Mark Texiera, both of whom are nearing the end of the road. The Cubs are a team on the rise, who will only improve. Their era of sustained success is just beginning. Buckle up, it's going to be a rough ride on Joe Orr Road....
