Bottom of 2nd.

Star on 2nd, Schwarbs on 1st. 1 Out.

Miggy up.

Denorfia running sprints to Bullpen loosening up. Grimm in the Bullpen, set to come in, no more pitches.

If Miggy gets a single, bases loaded, 1 out and it sure looks like Maddon is PH for Hammel.

Miggy K's...2 outs....and Hammel bats...singles...Star scores! 2-1

Allows Javy to bat...3 run HR!

Is it luck? Is it Joe? dont care....

STEP 3 STARTS SATURDAY

That strikeout looked to be huge for Lackey...and then he lets down and hangs a slider to Hammel. Two pitches, four runs, game over.

Hammel is a good hitting pitcher. The single didn't shock me. It wasn't hit very hard, but found it's way into CF. That ball had eyes, as they say. The Baez homer was the game changer.

Except the Cards tied the game at 4 later on. Maybe the throw out at the plate, the Rizzo homer, the bullpen work. Plenty of heros in this one.

I agree, tthe let down after the Miggy K....and while other big plays (Rizzo, Soler)....this was the swing point of the game, being down 2-0....

Its why Maddon was ready to pull Hammel

I think he meant game over in terms of momentum. It was huge to fluster Lackey, the one pitcher the Cardinals have that is a "Cubs killer." They did tie it up later, but the bullpen seemed strong...even Cahill. And the Cubs hitters were firing on all cylinders. I did not worry about the Cubs scoring more after it was 4-4. I was fairly confident in the bullpen not allowing much more.

My emotion level has been all over the place, but I agree that there was a feeling the Cubs would find a way all game. I turned on my radio and they were down 2-0 already. When they scored those four I thought it was over. If Soler didn't throw the guy out at the plate (very close play), the Cubs would have been down. The Bryant error had me worried.

I honestly don't know what to think anymore about these Cubs, so I am just going to enjoy it all.

Soler nailing Cruz was my pick for KPotN.

Kept the game tied. A lost lead would've been deflating
