oh yeah that'd show 'em!

I wouldn't want a school indoctrinating my kid into Cubdom either.

My nephew who lives in GreenBay wore a Forte jersey on Packer dress down day

Yeah. It would be like if they started trying to convert my kid to another religion but Cubdom is much worse and much more damaging to society.

When my late friend Jerry's grandson was in elementary school in Skokie, the teacher handed out an assignment with a blank rectangle on a sheet of paper and instructions to draw "your flag". The kid was in second or third grade and he came home and asked Jerry what his flag was. Jerry looked at him like he was crazy and said, "The Stars and Stripes!" The kid colored the American flag into the rectangle and took it to school the next day. The teacher sent it home with some note explaining that wasn't what she meant. Jerry went over to the school and told her, "Look, that's the only flag he has."

No, HUGE Cubs fan. Now that I think of it, he does have another flag:

I meant the kid.

Jerry was one of those guys (like North and bernstein) who hated admitting what a big Cub fan he was. I'm not sure why one would be embarrassed about his real allegiance. Jerry claimed to be a Dodger fan, which I guess he was. His story was that he started off a Cub fan but then his favorite player, Andy Pafko, got traded to the Dodgers. He said to himself, "Hey, the Cubs never win anything and these guys win all the time. I think I'll root for them." Of course, the Duke became his favorite player. He could wax on for hours about that Sandy Amoros catch in '55 when they doubled McDougald off first. But deep down he was really a Cub fan. And he hated the White Sox and the entire AL in general.

Considering I just made the joke today, I don't see how it could be "ancient history". Does someone else you know have a flag joke about my friend Jerry who died?

I was freaking out after the NLDS. Had trouble sleeping, every moment of idle thought went to worrying about them, I had to buy a 1000 piece puzzle (Sgt Peppers album cover, its a tough puzzle) to get my mind off it. I calmed down a little after a couple of days and realized that in a 7 game series they have to wins out of Hendricks and/or Hammel. Then the last two games happened and I'm fine.

There's still a little nagging fear that they'll come back, which will make it even worse if they win, but I'm comfortable again.

Yeah, where the fuck does one find a Sgt.Pepper puzzle in 2015?

I left my Sox had at home today, not wanting to seem like an opportunist asshole. If the Cubs win tomorrow, my hat goes back on so I seem more of a defiant asshole.
