Rough game tonight. Some hard hit balls right at guys, and some bad at bats as well. Lester gave up some bombs. Rizzo and Bryant really need to get going. Fowler for being a lead off man is kind of slow. Probably should of beat out the ball he hit off Harvey. Really needed to win both these games in NY, considering your 3 and 4 starter probably will be lucky to give you 4-5 innings. The one worry I had going into the series was the weather. These guys are pretty soft when it gets cold. It was in the 50's and Soler, Baez, and Castro are wearing the fucking head gear. Kind of ridiculous.

Get off the ledge guys.

All you needed was one in New York.

And with Arrieta going tomorrow you should get it.

Cubs in 6.

It was one game. Would have been nice to get that one with Arrieta going in game 2. But if they can go back to Chicago 1-1 then they are in fine shape.

A little surprised the Mets are throwing Syndergaard in game 2 after the relief appearance and warming up so much on Thursday. Hopefully that will have him not on top of his game tomorrow.

Well if you want to continue being miserable, by all means go ahead.

But it doesn't matter.

Wasn't really coaching for those shifts. It's just scouting reports of where they hit the ball. Everybody does the shifts now. You just look at the spray charts. Any idiot can place the defense based on those charts. It's a no brainer.

Since the Mets won, if I were Collins I'd push back Syndegaard and deGrom a day and start Colon or Matz. Arrieta figures to be tough, so it might be better to have those guys at full strength for games 3 and 4 against the weaker Cubs pitchers.

This upsets me. I take my Stallone seriously and this is obviously a Rocky II head photoshopped onto a Rocky IV body. Show the Southpaw from Philly some respect.

awwww you guys.... cubs fans are so cute when they're bloviating!

syndergaard was fully rested for thursday, so they turned his 1IP into a work day and got him back on schedule for today. if he pitched a full day on wednesday it'd be three days rest, but since they didnt go with popular sentiment @ the time and get him back out there for the 8th (which would have likely pushed him back to game 3/4 and given you steven matz tomorrow) i figured he was set for game 2. personally if i were terry collins i would have done that, with the thought that you use up matz against arrieta and then come back against hendricks/whoever with degrom/syndergaard like "whatch00 gonna do?" because while you might get 3 combined starts out of degrom/syndergaard instead of 4 you'd be saving them to not go against arrieta/lester and then make the cubs have to beat your #1/2 pitchers with hendricks/hammel/haren/somebody-whose-name-starts-with-H. thats what i was thinking, but then again i can see wanting to line up syndergaard with arrieta cuz if you dont get god mode arrieta then you've got syndergaard out there, who technically outdueled greinke in game 2 in LA until that 7th inning where the utley slide (playing the double door next thursday) is what prevented you from getting out of the inning with a 2-1 lead.

and jimmy, dude, unlike the dodgers (a la the yankees) it's not like the mets are there by default cuz LOL PAYROLL and this is just the usual extension of their season, this team hasnt been in the playoffs for years so all of that OMFG IT'S GONNA HAPPEN!!! cubbie magic is there for the mets cuz this too is "their year" so the team sporadically ends up being more than the sum of their parts, as opposed to the dodgers/yankees thing where 4/5 or 7/8 years they're just kind of soullessly in the playoffs again cuz thats where $$$$big-money$$$$ teams belong..... the mets are just like the cubs with the OMFG!!!! factor, except that whereas the cubs have a bunch of good young hitters/position-players the mets have a bunch of good young pitching (even old man harvey is young) and i think whoever wins this series is going to pimpslap the AL and take home a title.

and i think cubs/mets is going to be the default NLCS for the next 5-10yrs because while the cubs' rotation is far from a finished product (see: the dropoff after arrieta/lester) the mets' lineup/position-playrs is far from a finished product and both teams are going to build around their respective pitching/hitting strengths and improve the rest of the team, so yeah, i think you're looking at the two perennial powerhouses in the NL going forward and this will end up being a huge rivalry..... we'lll see what happens.

one thing the cubs have going for them is that terry collins is clearly scared shitless of his bullpen outside of familia, so he'd much rather use starters like bartolo colon in relief roles as opposed to the flying torres brothers or hanson robles or bobby parnell or the ghost of addison reed.... that's going to factor into this cuz i bet you see niese or dillon gee out there in relief before you see the a4mentioned relievers, and while maddon might over-tinker with the lineup/pitching trying to oursmart the smartest guy in the room, still he's gotten clayton richard, travis wood, and even trevor cahill out there with successful appearances so if you gotta go to them they've already dipped their toes in the pool and they know the water temperature.

It happened already, against the Cards, nice for the Cubs they won that game.

Jake will be back in orbit tomorrow. 8+ IP, 1 ER.
