I didn't really think Lester would get it done tonight, I have no faith in the guy..he's just not that good and Ross can't hit. Still think Cubs win next 2 and win the series in 6 or 7.. Mets have 2 guys that can rake.. The Cubs can outslug em.

Can we stop with the "we went there to get one" crap? We went there to get both. This is baseball. The Cubs jave won just about as many games on the road as at home. The Cubs didn't lose game 1 because they were in NY. They lost because Harvey outpitched Lester and the Cubs bats looked neutered.

Would have been nice to get that one.

One play here or there could have made all the difference...

Bryant doesn't lose the handle on the DP ball. Ross tags out the guy at the plate, Lester could actually hold a guy on first, etc.

must win game for the Cubs. Lose Arrieta's outing and the series is over.

Almost. Teams that lost the first two games of a League Championship Series are like 3-23 or something.

True but I will not count this team as done until the final out of elimination game.

Love these stats.

teams that lose their first 4 games of an NFl only make the playoffs 9% of the time.
40% of the time when a batter is 0-2 the result is an out, 27% of the its a strikeout.
60% of the time when its a 3-0 count, the next pitch is a called strike

Stats of the Obvious

Right. So it's obvious that if the Cubs lose tonight the series is probably over.

No, but its obvious the odds are against them, down 0-2 in a 7 game serious. Dont even care if the history said that 40% of the time the team down 0-2 comes back. Its not good.

However, expecting a W.

Maybe Murphy, will miss the game?

I also dont like the Lions chances of making the playoffs, without even looking at the historial stats!

Obvious that the series is probably over? You gotta come out stronger than that, dude. Hedging all over.

I couldn't find any stats on Championship Series, but in the World Series, the team that goes down 0-2 has won 21% of the time. Bad odds, but I wouldn't call that "over."

That said, I'm nervous. The Mets have it going right now... pitching looks great, they have their positional playoff hero, and they have the same mojo the Cubs had coming into the series. Arrieta's gotta do his thing tonight.

Murphy Used his magic...unless its in a little needle.

went postseason deep 2 times off Kershaw, once off Grienke, once off lester. Thats damn impressive for a 30 year old FA to be looking for his first mega deal, injured most of June, who hit 14 HR all season. Very impressive :D

Yeah, I think he'll continue to do well in the playoffs and return to form next year. There's something about him right now.

I know times are different and testing is "better", but I will never forget a TIP I got one year from a trainer one year about a certain 2B, who was in his final FA year in Montreal, he hit a career high 20 HR's in Montreal and signed a 3 year $15 mill deal after that. '97, that was good money.

Name of player withheld, but easy enough to figure out.

Made me very aware to the fact almost every guy in a FA year will maximize his ability in order to be paid and never have a real job.

For the record, would probably do the same thing if put in that position.

The almost exclusive focus on drafting and developing hitters/position players at the expense of developing young arms is the part of The Plan that I’m not so sure about because then the Cubs have to compensate for the lack of pitching by resorting to makeshift ways, which leaves the Cubs vulnerable to over-paying for free agent pitchers that may be past their prime.

The Cubs lost 1 effing game. They lost the opener to the Cardinals too (also a Lester start) and then swept the next 3. Syndegaard threw 100 pitches in the bullpen warming up 4 different times before going in the game in relief in Thursday's game VS the Dodgers, where he had 17 more pitches in the inning he worked. He is NOT therefore on full rest in my opinion and the Cubs have the best pitcher on the planet going on an extra days rest. Jake's record after a loss is a perfect 11-0 and he has been especially dominant in road starts in the 2nd half, including a no-hitter in LA and a dominant performance in Pittsburgh in the wildcard game. He beat Syndegaard in his MLB debut earlier this season. I am looking forward to watching this game tonight. It should be fun.

Or, they use the approximately 3 million they make per playoff game and sign a top notch starting pitcher NOT past his prime.

I guess I don't know a lot about how quickly that shit works, but Murphy's surge has been immediate and in a very short span. It was always my understanding that traditiinal 'roids took awhile to work and basically aided working out by increasing testosterone. Is there something out there that can make a guy better immediately? Obviously, some sort of speed might, but I mean in terms of roid-like drugs.

That was the nicest response I could come up with. I even polled my family.

The same insult you used on me is the exact reason your family participared in your poll.

We wouldn't even be having this conversation if Scherzer was our man instead of Lester.
