I think pereira is wrong here. In 2015, thats a penalty every time, from the games I've watched the past few years. In no way is that how the game should be officiated though, imo. It wasn't dirty, malicious, or harmful, and it would never have been a foul if it didn't look like the play that hurt Tom Brady in 2008.

No surprise that a former defensive player disagreed with the flag. Ronde had a rough day today. I'm not sure that citing him strengthens your case.

Phil Simms is a long time NFL broadcaster, and he doesn't even know where he is half of the time. There are tons of long time broadcasters who are clueless. Again, I don't think this builds your case.

I agree with this. He didn't try to hurt Stafford, but the league protects QBs, by throwing flags at low hits. McPhee could have avoided it.

I think it should be a penalty.

I'd coach my players to do that every single time if that was a legal hit. Good luck passing when I'm taking out your legs at every chance.

Correct. McPhee was actually trying to avoid Stafford & he barely touched the back of his legs. The NFL & silly rules are making it difficult to watch football on Sundays. The NFL could learn a few things from the NCAA about how to officiate football games.

It's a mess and I feel the same way,Scorehead. It gets to the point that you expect a flag after every play. The refs are ruining the game with a lot of tickey-tack calls. Combined with reviewing every frickin play in super slow mo,the game has declined.

B&B played Joniak's call of the play. He said the flag was thrown for a late hit, the zebras had a quick conference, and the personal foul was assessed.

You. Can't. Hit. A. Quarterback. Late. It will be called EVERY time.

This is all hilarious coming from a fanbase that couldn't stop whining about Suh.

You cannot compare that McPhee play yesterday to the dirtiness that is Suh.

I am talking about fan reaction. Many people cheered on as Suh got personal foul penalties, just for his reputation. I remember one game in particular. Suh two-hand shoved Cutler to the ground as he released the ball. Flag came out, and everybody here agreed that it was worthy of a penalty. The same people that are crying about this flag, cheered the ticky tack flags against Suh. You can't have it both ways.

And once again, I will remind you that he got there way late, just as only Joniak and I saw, apparently. A defensive player will get flagged every time for putting the QB on the ground late, especially in the middle of the field, and it's only those two players.

Didn't see the play, but arguing against a penalty for hitting a quarterback in the modern NFL seems like kind of a fool's errand to me. What else do you think the refs are going to do?

I'm talking about the Bears fans here. Joniak saw the late hit, so that's a wash. Put that talking point to bed.

The same people who whine about Hawk Harrelson, have spent the last 48 hours crying about how the refs screwed the Cubs and Bears.

LATE HITS ON A QB WILL BE CALLED EVERY TIME!

Time to let it go, fellas.

Late hits on the QB are 15 yard penalties, whether or not you equate this to putting skirts on them.

I think it should be a penalty.

Ideally, the NFL would come up with a similar rule to the NBA's recent anti-flopping penalty that has seemed to work well. Stafford should be fined and penalized for making that look like a late hit.
