Daniel Murphy is beyond 2011 David Freese territory.

He might be beyond Carlos Beltran territory. It's unreal.

Beltran was already a superstar. Murphy is just sort of a guy... Freese post-2011 is just sort of a guy. Ask Mazeroski about being just a sort of decent player who comes up huge at the right moment.
I love October... it's great theater. More fun of course if your team is in it, but that's not always going to be the case.

You weren't kidding. This game was certainly get delayed, and maybe even suspended. They will be lucky to get into the 6th before it starts raining.

Awful at bats there from Bryant and Rizzo. No clutch hitting.

A shutdown inning here would be big.

Can't cough up any more runs with deGrom looking like he's found his groove.

at this point the cubs might as well try to see if they can just start the inning with the mets leadoff hitter on first to save hendricks a few pitches.

Just enjoying watching the game with no real rooting interest. It is possible when to love the game itself, not just your team. I'm not accusing you of that per se... but many Chicago fans seem to misunderstand that. Part of the culture here.

You'd think by now the smartest manager in baseball ™ would kind of issue an edict to his pitchers to not throw anything hittable to Murpby.

yeah i know, i was just goofing on the "your team might not always be in it" thing to cubs fans cuz they're pretty much used to that by default.

i honestly have no idea whats going to happen here, so we'll see what happens. cubs gotta make some hay when they get these scoreless innings down 1.

Yeah, I don't get that. One of the most powerful weapons an MLB manager has is the ability to basically take the bat out of the hands of any hitter on the opposing team at any time. And yet MLB managers--other than the LaRussa(s)--seem to avoid wielding that weapon at any cost.

Jim Leyland arguably left 2 World Series rings on the table because he refused to have his guys pitch around Albert Pujols in the 2006 Series and David Ortiz in the 2013 ALCS.
