It was still a good ride for your Cubs.

Maddon pulls Hammel in the 4th. Hammel does something that makes his continued employment with the team untenable.

BENCH BRYANT AND SOLER.

Give them something to think about next year. You don't reward terrible performance (Bryant at the plate & Soler's flop in the OF) with another game. Go with Cogs and LaStella.

What the hell difference does it make now anyway?

Lester should be pitching this game. It's why Arrieta should have pitched game 1.

I say this in all seriousness with no trolling, a four game sweep would be the best thing for future Cub development at this point.

Please don't agree with me or I will use the quote in the future to show you guys are OK with losing

Like the Pistons sweeping the Bulls?

or the 49ers crushing the Bears in 84?

I don't want to make a comparison. A four game sweep doesn't leave much room to psychologically allow for thinking about bad bounces, umpires or just a few plays. It is really a call to action that I think would be picked up by the young players in their off season work. I think the same is true for the front office in a more general way.

I did watch that 30 for 30 on the Pistons and Jordan said he changed the way he went about his entire regimen based on the sweep.

If the Cubs win tonight I believe that they could win the series. You'll have Lester and Arrieta pitching in the last 3 games.

Maybe if it was 2007 Lester.

I agree. But I'm not going to bash Maddon for that. He knows his ballclub and I'm sure he had his reasons. Maybe he didn't want to leave Lester off that long. The thing is though, Arrieta would have been on regular rest in Game 1. When you have a guy going the way he was, I would err on the side of keeping his routine as much as possible. Also, by starting him in the first game you gave yourself the option of using him three times if necessary.

I think the drop in velocity made Maddon think the extra day would be good for ol Jake from State Farm

I just wanted to put that out there. IMO if the Cubs win tonight all the pressure is on the Mets.

No. This Mets team is a loose bunch. Cubs appear to be crumbling under the pressure.

Isn't there another day off? Lester will pitch on 3 days rest.

It would only be 2 days rest.

Its fine. They win Game 7 on the back of Cahill and Wood

This is the same kind of statement as calling a manager a "good leader". He may or may not be, but we really don't know. So it's just claptrap. I'm sure sometimes guys feel pressure. Maybe some guys do and some don't. But guys at this level, I would guess most of them feel pressure less than the fan in the stand does. I always think of that scene in Fever Pitch where the fans see Johnny Damon et al in the VIP section eating and drinking and yukking it up after an excruciating Red Sox loss while the fans themselves are nearly suicidal. I mean, economically you're set for life, you can bang any number of hot chicks, and if you lose you go to Arizona and play golf, how much pressure could you really feel?
