Why? You're #1b pitcher can't start in Wednesday after pitching on Saturday? Why wouldn't you want your best available pitcher on the mound?

There are metrics youve never heard of that indicate it was the prudent move

Its all random

There sure seems to be a disconnect between Hammel and Maddon. Hammel didn't even acknowledge him during the pitching change. Can't see Jason coming back next year with that type of rift.

I think this was Hammel's final start as a Cub. I think they will sign a top of the rotation starter as well as either signing or trading for a #3-#4 type. Hendricks will be the 5th starter, with Wood and Richard also given the opportunity to battle for that spot. But Hammel will be traded for a prospect, or in a package that brings back a better starter.

DUDE! dont spoil your subject matter for when you call kap and co..... some of us want 100% fresh stevehurst elm, not rehashed stuff we read tonight!

Why, why, why, is Castro swinging at the first pitch?

Because he got a great pitch to hit. He hit it well. Right street, wrong address.

Well, get 1 run with bases loaded and no out. Not the best results. Shit at bats by Schwarber and Baez. Schwarber should of killed the 1st pitch hanger. That was their chance and they pissed themselves like they have the rest of the series.

Bases loaded, no outs. And get a single run. Mets would have gotten at least 7 or 8.

a 4 game sample. great conclusion

I know it's hindsight and it sounds crazy to say, but I wonder if any serious consideration was given to dropping Hammel for Haren this round?

Would have been lucky to get five solid innings out of either of those guys.

Yeah probably just wishful thinking, but damn Hammel has been a gas can for about two months now. I hope it was at least considered.

I'm not sure that's true. I believe Fowler grounded out to start the inning.

Cal said it, so I'm pretty sure it's not true.

For the record, my tix fell through.

just get over it dude.... everyone's a TJ patient, bad umps, choking cubs.... THE PLAN > ALL.... i get it. the cubs are set up better than everyone in baseball because they did things the right way. i never even said that the mets have the best long term plan in baseball given the inherent fragility of pitchers, but i'll be damned if the mets plan isnt kicking THE PLAN'S sorry ass out of the playoffs tonight. have a good one!

edit: btw kirkwood, given that baseball is a 162 game schedule that comes dwn to 5, 7, and 7 game series.... 4 game sample sizes in octber become pretty damn significant.

Murphy will leave via free agency and I believe Cespedes as well. They had a very mediocre offense before obtaining Cespedes and may have that issue again.

At what point would you pinch hit for Ross? I can see starting him for defense but now that you need runs why let him waste an at-bat?

If Colon was on the Cubs this year, he would have been the #3 starter.
