Interesting topic brought up by Jurko. He is suggesting that you trade Devin Hester now at the peak of his marketability and he is a gimic player.

I might not go that far, but what kind of money will he get when it's time to extend him? It's hard to quantify his value, because he's like nobody else in the NFL. There is no precedent for a player like him.

I wouldn't mind trading him for some picks and/or multiple proven go-line or role players. The one guy vs. picks or multiple guys has it's ups and downs but the law of averages says Hester is going down with an injury and will never be the same after. Favre is a statistical anomaly with playing so long. I say do the dam thing.

That's a stupid thought by Jurko. What are they gonna trade him for? A first rounder that can easily be fucked up?

Remember Benson, Sallam, and Enis were top 10 guys. How about Thierry, McNown and Spellman

Nobody's gonna give you an elite WR, RB, or QB for him.

Why would you trade him for draft picks when Hester already has proven his value?

That's dumb Jurko.

I don't think Hester is going to command to much.

Donte Hall (I know he's no DH but he's the only recent comparable player) was traded to St.Louis for a 5th round pick. Hall makes 2m per year. So what are we going to get for Hester who has million dollar talent but a 10 cent mind?

I agree with the latter and disagree with the former.

His value is easy to quantify with touchdowns and touchdowns which lead to victories. More abstractly his value is quantified by field position and opponents net yards per punt or kickoff.

Not sure if there is a stat for this, but I would assume the Bears lead the league in opponents net yards per punt and kick.

Trading Hester would be a mistake. You'd never get value for value in shipping Hester away.

hester has 10 TDs in something like 27 games (not counting the super bowl). the bears O-lineman have 1 TD in the past 25 years.

im no GM but...

Great point. How sad is it that the Bears rank probably first in the league in starting field position yet are 18th in points scored. (which I'm surprised we're that high. Our defense must really suck... oh yeah it does).

also, even if the bears make a trade and get some great Olineman or a good running back, is it gonna matter if they have rex fucking grossbomb (or somebody like him) under center?

Hester is a gimmick player - and I'd trade him for a high first, high second and high third rounder after next season.

I wouldn't trade him for fading veteran NFL players though.

But at the end of the day, it doesn't matter how many plays Hester plays vs. a regular offensive player.

Don't confuse effort with accomplishment - Hester has scored more TDs than any offensive player currently on the Bears offensive starter has ever scored in the same time frame.

And he's eaten up huge chunks of yardage.

I might trade him for a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd rounder too. Especially if one is a high first rounder.

But you're not going to fucking get that trade. Are you guys nuts. Guys, look what Moss got traded for. The Eagles won't get more than a 3rd rounder for McNabb. Ownes got traded for shit. Those guys are higher impact then Hester.

Teams don't give up their draft classes except for Ditka and the 89 Vikings.

This is one of the occasions / arguments I believe J. Jurkovich is taking a side in hopes of getting audience participation.

I heard Doug and I mentioned about 15-20 minutes ago and didn't catch what it was about but it sounded like it had to do with hester. I don't remember e-mailing anything in, but Mac said something about "Ask Woodridge Ryan" for something to do with hester. Very confused...

You're correct. Nobody would trade multiple high round draft picks for Hester.

The Iggles stated they want THREE first rounders for McNabb yesterday. ROTFLMAO!!!

I did some research and Hester has scored more TDs the past two years than ANY of the Bears skill position players: Berrian, Moose, Clark or Benson.

That's dangerously close to Mike North style "the Bears should have drafted Janikowski over Urlacher because he scores more points" logic.

Jurko's got a good point here.

There's been much ado made about the high number of kicks returned for TD's this season. I would think there are several teams that would be willing to part with a couple of picks because he would be even more valuable on a team like Dallas, GB, Indy, etc. to even the field a bit with NE.

The Bears need a LOT of help. Hester's trade value could possibly get them closer, quicker

He has more than our RB too.

He has more TDs the past two years than Marvin Harrison too.

WR,
Caught the very end. It was an email that referenced you 2 stars. MJH got a big bang out of it. Sorry I can't provide more details.

That "gimic" is smashing return records and providing his offense with great field position -- when teams avoid him.

I can help, WR. I was soliciting contributions from first time callers... suggesting we love all the regulars, but we want some long-time guys who've never communicated to stand up today and be counted. An e-mailer very cleverly fired off something like... "Why? When I hear about a tragedy like Sean Taylor, I say to myself, what would Woodridge Ryan think?" There was another thought that followed... something like "What would Doug in Evergreen Park say?" It was very loving. Dutch in Roselle, it occurs to me now, sent the e-mail. I believe you know him.
