In light of how they ended the show tonight bashing Murph I give you "I Predict". How many ways will Bernsie back away from Cub love and Boers goes "yeah that is about right"?

He won't. He's already got their schedule of greatness written down in ink.

It will be, "Relax, Cub fans, you'll be celebrating World Series victories more than once in the near future."

What is their to back away from?

Other than dumb stuff like they were a year too early or they need more experience, etc., haven't they always said, before these excuses, that the playoffs is a crap shoot, the whole idea is to get into the playoffs and then roll the dice that appearing enough will ultimately result in a WS?

If he updates that comment to 'playoff appearances', it'll be more reasonable. They could win 3 of the next 5 WS, or be the Atlanta Braves. Impossible to know.

soon the focus will be about how john fox is a bad coach and how they never wanted him in chicago (contrary to what they said firing to pre-season)

He will double down on Cubs enthusiasm with the reports that they will be broadcast on WSCR...Jason Goff will tell us it has no impact on the programming and tenor of his show. I remember the Tribune selling that load of crap for a decade or two.

http://www.robertfeder.com/2015/10/22/cubs-still-on-the-move-to-the-score/

CBS Radio plans to move Chicago Cubs baseball broadcasts to sports/talk WSCR AM 670 next year, sources said.

For the past season, the Cubs aired on all-news WBBM AM 780. Under a seven-year agreement signed in 2014, CBS Radio has a one-time opportunity to move the team to The Score in 2016.

Rod Zimmerman, senior vice president and market manager of CBS Radio Chicago, would not confirm the move Thursday but said a final decision would be announced “probably in the next 30 to 45 days.”

The shift would coincide with the departure of Chicago White Sox baseball broadcasts from The Score after 10 years, and that team’s move to Cumulus Media news/talk WLS AM 890, effective this spring.

Although the Cubs season ended short of a National League Championship Series victory Wednesday, the popularity of the club proved a ratings bonanza to WBBM Newsradio, which is expected to widen its first-place lead in the market when Nielsen Audio figures for October are released.

CBS Radio acquired the radio rights after Tribune Media news/talk WGN AM 720 cut its historic ties to the Cubs dating back to 1925.

Terry told a new Murph story yesterday. It warmed the cockles of my heart.

They're way on board with this Cubs team. They have never predicted a WS win but it'll be bites at the apple talk all day.

TB predicted a Cubs World Series win...sometime. One of those "you think they'll win one? yup, guaranteed..." kind of things. Bernstein is right, predictions are dumb.

Terry is the guy who predicted Prior would win 28 games in 2004.

We knew the Cubs were headed to WSCR more than a year ago. The instant they joined the CBS family you knew where their final destination was.

Around that same time is when "compete for multiple titles" became a meme and all cautionary tales were waved away because "these guys are smarter."

Also could have seen it coming when CBS moved the Yankees from WCBS to WFAN after the Mets left, despite Mets games airing on 660 for years and years and the station once being full of Mets fans. Here as there, they're not going to let the sports station sit vacant while baseball pre-empts news.

EDIT: Incidentally, WFAN is one of the only major AM stations I can think of that still quaintly identifies by one-tenth of its frequency as on old radio dials, i.e., "Sportsradio 66." I know WBBM was "Newsradio 78" until maybe 15 years ago.

Along those lines, I remember William "The Refrigerator" Perry doing some ads for WGN back in the day that played off his uniform number 72.

Can these fucking guys STOP with the bullshit narrative that people won't be happy if the Cubs fans win the WS because they secretly enjoy being lovable losers? It's one of the most annoying untrue bullshit things these assholes put out there. There is literally not 1 Cub fan in this city that feels that way. They all seem to "know" that person though. Purple saying some Red Sox fans are like that now because they've been successful .No you don't . It's a fucking bold faced lie. Just stop.

I might have missed Terry's story, but Matt said he once figured out that Murph was sending emails from his wife's email address using other names and reading them on air, because they were the only positive emails the show got. My details might be a bit mixed as I was in the car taking my dog to the vet to be put to sleep. :|

Yea, I dont know how or why they come up with this crap. There isnt 1 single Cubs fan who doesnt want the Cubs to win the WS.

I think you are wrong.

There are Blackhawks fans that think it was better in the good old days. I'm sure there are Cubs fans that feel the same today.

Well the good old days could mean more than just winning. Most people remember the past as being much better than it actually was at the time.

There isnt 1 Blackhawks fan who isnt happy that they won the cup.

I've already opined that Murph is that type of Cub fan.

The new story on Murph had to do with him coming in to do reads in the early days decked out in full leather. McNeil and Terry are laughing uncontrollably and Murph asks why. It was funnier told by Terry.

Losing wasn't part of the Blackhawk fan's identity though. I agree with rogue that there aren't any Cub fans who don't want them to win, but once they have won, there may be regrets. The losing is one of the things that makes the Cubs special. Red Sox fans have lost their identity. They used to have a romantic story of near misses and constant heartbreak. That's why there's so many books written about them rather than the A's, for example. Now they're just another team that gets it's ass kicked by the Yankees most of the time. The Red Sox are now the Orioles.

You might hope the Cubs move to Schaumburg and win a World Series every twenty years like a normal team, but I would caution to be careful about those hopes.

There is truth here, in that the "loser story" overwhelmed or defined the franchise itself. for decades, red sox "nation" was the loser nation. but 3 world series in the past 11 years, i wouldn't say they're the orioles. they're more like the marlins. only with a bigger, much more nauseating fanbase that now no longer has the sympathetic sweet loser touch.
