I had more fun watching Cubs games this year than any other besides 1984 & 2003. This team & organization is unbelievably likable & for the first time in many years, I will look forward to both the baseball off season & next year. Were in for a fun stretch.

Now its time to move all in on the Blackhawks & college football.

I agree, it was a very easy team to like and cheer for.

The Sandberg Game was and will always be #1 for me.

But 1989 when McClendon came home against SF on Monday Night Baseball (RIP) and when they came back from 8-0 against Houston was my favorite season.

the Mets are still paying Bonilla $1.19 million annually until 2035, so it isn't like shrewd financial moves got them here. The Playoffs are a cruel and inconsistent mistress. Because Baseball.

The Kingman 3 HR game against LaSorda's Dodgers. Jimmie Qualls doing a summersault over Red's catcher Pat Corrales to score a run in a 1969(?) game sticks in my head. Milt Pappas Almost-perfect game another memory.

Just gotta keep trying to qualify for the post-season tournament and get hot at the right time.

I'd still love to see Pappas and Bruce Froemming in a room together if I knew who was alive.

I think they're both alive. It's Pappas' wife that's dead.

edit: btw kirkwood, given that baseball is a 162 game schedule that comes dwn to 5, 7, and 7 game series.... 4 game sample sizes in octber become pretty damn significant.

no it isn't

Porting over your BlackhawksAngstBot bit doesn't really work when the postseasons in question happened twelve, eight, and seven years ago.

That is all we heard leading up to this series. "These kids don't care/remember 2003, 2008, 1969, etc. Then they went out and wrote their own chapter of the book.

I dont think this team quit. They just couldnt hit at the right time. They had a ton of chances last night.

They were diving for balls, trying to work counts and generally looked to being going all out.

Froemming is definitely still alive, I see him on the Brewers broadcastd every now and then.

Deferred compensation IS a shrewd financial move.

I didn't think a team could look worse at the plate than the 2008 Cubs in the playoffs then these guys went out and had a historically bad series. Curse? No but if and when they make the playoffs again you don't think that how they did in this series won't be in the back of their minds?

I dont think so because a lot of them had success in the Cardinal series.

Also the Dodgers pitchers were not these Mets pitchers. They ran into a team with 3 legit Ace types.

Maybe some of them will carry it how you say. Who knows. But there are endless amounts of guys who looked terrible in small sample sizes in the playoffs then broke out

Well the way Frank wrote that seems to indicate Cubbie weirdness or whatever.

Small consolation but there really wasn't a "what if" for Cubs fans this series.
