I think this has been a better year for music than 2014. What has tickled your fancy thus far?

My candidates for songs of the year to this point:

Sleater-Kinney, "Surface Envy"
Father John Misty, "The Night Josh Tillman Came to Our Apartment," and "Chateau Lobby #4"
The Kickback, "Sting's Teacher Years"
Desaparecidos, "City on a Hill"
Kendrick Lamar, "i"
Tobias Jesso Jr., "Hollywood," and "Leaving L.A."
Destroyer, "Times Square," and "Dream Lover"
Viet Cong, "Continental Shelf"
Vince Staples, "Norf Norf"
Jason Isbell, "24 Frames"
St. Vincent, "Teenage Talk"
Courtney Barnett, "Pedestrian at Best," and "Nobody Really Cares If You Don't Go to the Party"
Wilco, "Taste the Ceiling"
Sufjan Stevens, "Death with Dignity"
Leon Bridges, "Coming Home"
El Vy, "Return to the Moon"

Lot of noisy angry stuff TM. Maybe you should try peace and quiet once in a while.

Every song? Really? I guess I'll have to give it a few more listens, but I haven't found it to be all that mind-blowing so far.

I love 24 Frames.

I think Compound Fracture is a pretty cool song.

Probably half the songs. My point was that Alright isnt necessarily my favorite but I think it will be the lasting impression from the album.

Wesley's Theory is probably my favorite on the album

Momma is kinda unnecessary and out of place

Have you listened to the Tobias Jesso Jr. album?

It may have the mellow vibe you're looking for.

Heavily influenced by 70's singer-songwriters.

I don't pretend to be a hip hop aficionado, but Vince Staples' CD ranks as my favorite in that genre so far for 2015. I still have a lot more listening to do in this area, though.

I just listened to a few songs off his latest album. I was ok with it. A little too mellow. I like upbeat stuff with a catchy melody. Poppy stuff. Elle King X's and O's.

Anything by St. Paul and the Broken Bones. Yes it's blue-eyed soul, and no I don't give a shit.

gets a point when your life is depressing enough you don't need mopey 20-somethings complaining about their trivial problems.

i like the album. but ive seen him play twice this year and i'm not fully sold on him as a live act. his band is very technically sound, but each time it seemed like he was more interested in doing a stand up act than playing a show...

The song is about the struggle of the low income person and rails against the unfairness of our prison system. You should love it.

Maybe he needs to perform a comedy act because his songs are so depressing?
