I saw a comment on YouTube

The ball didnt approve of Murphy's lifestyle

I chuckled

BTW, how bout Cespedes literally kicking the ball 20 feet into left field twice in 4 games?

What are the odds of that?

Defense doesn't really matter so that's a weak excuse anyway.

First base defense doesn't matter as illustated by the fact that Gold Glove Joe kicked the ball all over and his team still won rather easily.

Especially, you know, because they if it wasn't for the God/Jesus/Arrietta like run that Bumgarner was on last postseason, the Royals would probably be celebrating their second World Series title.

In hindsight... Yeah, should have gotten Cole Hamells.

Cueto got shelled after the trade..until he played a N.L. team (Mets) his Era was like 2 plus runs higher.

Not sure you understand WAR. Anyway, to your point, the Sox starters were a whole lot stronger.

Frank is a Hall of Famer and if Contreras had a full MLB career he would be too.

Who are the Royal Hall of Famers? Alex Fucking Gordon?

Lorenzo Cain is one of the best all around players in baseball.

If a guy with a 106 career OPS+ is "one of the best", God help baseball.

Well it was a 126+ OPS this past season and he is one of the best defenders and baserunners in the game.

So he's marginally better than Adam Eaton. I think the best all around player in the game- whoever he might be- has more than 15 home run power.

And you know that's because way too much weight is put on the defensive components. Anyway, he averaged about 2 over the previous three seasons. He's a nice player. Let's not make too much of him.

I still don't understand JORR's argument here. They were pretty much the best team in the AL from start to finish, and then handily beat the Mets in the World Series. From a casual fan's perspective, this doesn't come close to resembling the 2007 Giants in terms of a mediocre team winning a championship.

Look at the careers of the players on the Royals and compare them to that Giants team. Moustakas is a career .245 hitter. Alex Gordon is a left fielder who averages 15 homers a year.

Yeah.. You are right about me not really understanding WAR..I don't like it and don't think its accurate.

Big Hurt had as much influence on the 05 Sox as George Brett had with the 15 Royals.

I'm going to ignore that ridiculous statement on Contreras..and Adam Eaton Lorenzo Cain .

Moose ? 245 career hitter who showed up in a big series? Sounds like one Joseph Crede to me.

Contreras was a great pitcher prevented from playing in the big leagues due to no fault of his own. When he finally got there he was well past his prime and a mere shadow of himself, yet at 40 years old he was the best starter in the game from about June 2005 to August 2006. The man was amazing. His best comparison is Satchel Paige.

dude.... what?

the royals had to come back and tie it in the 9th in games 1/5, they basically did the same thing in the 8th in game 4 (exascerbated by d-murphy fucking up a grounder).... they were basically in position to be put away 2-3 times (depending on your semantics) and those are 2-3 of their 4 series wins.

if you wanna see a team handily beating another look at what the mets did to the cubs.... they left the first inning with a lead in every game IIRC and they never let the cubs have the lead once.... THAT is handily beating a team, not having to rally back in the 8th/9th and let a team shit the bed and choke it away.

the mets choked away three of the royals' 4 wins this world series. its not like they came into the series and just transcended the mets.

now all we need is Moustakas to hit 30 homers and have a career ending back injury and the comp will be exact.

Moustakas found another level last year and he hasnt come down. That's him, now.

Great fielder that hits around 275 and 20 homers.

Except many of the errors are by guys considered good defenders. It's not that it doesn't matter, it's that the diiference is even smaller than offense and just doesn't show itself except over many many chances. Of course Duda throwing one away in a WS game stands out.

Not in the context of WAR though.

Its overvalued in WAR. They havent figured that out yet.
