Highly overrated director. Has churned out a lot of crappy films.

Ebert used to treat him like he was on the mt rushmore of movie directors.

Well so creative the blending of Chicago and Iraq for the film title. That looks really bad.

It does look bad. Spike Lee's one very good movie was Do The Right Thing.

You didn't watch Malcolm X? He has close to 10. Miracle at St. Anna was a recent one that was great.

I guess it has been years since I have seen Malcolm X. Do The Right Thing is the one that stands out in my mind
and was pretty influential on a 13yr old T-Bone.

He's made a lot of duds and this looks like one. Watch Miracle at St. Anna you will thank me later.

I went and saw 25th Hour in the theater and it was a big disappointment. I'll take your recommendation under advisement.

Malcom X was exceptional.

Do The Right Thing is his masterpiece but he's made a lot of great movies. Bamboozled is awesome.

I put him in the category of M. Night Shamalan. His great work is up there with the best. His bad work is unwatchable.

Jungle Fever has some hot moments.

Well, that looks different than I anticipated.

Is John Cusak supposed to be Michael Pfleger?

I think so.

I'm gonna see this in theaters I think. I'm at least curious and I actually kind of like Spike Lee.

"malcolm x", "do the right thing", "jungle fever", "crooklyn", "summer of sam" and "bamboozled" are all quality; but i've never dug the "joint" thing. it's just begging for attention. and very few directors can get away with "a ___ film". i like that peter jackson never does that.

Add Inside Man, He Got Game, Love of Basketball, Best Man and Miracle at St. Anna to that list.

i keep forgetting he directed "inside man"--and that's because he didn't write it nor was he first choice as director. and i've heard mixed things about "miracle", which he also didn't write.

however, i will add "he got game" to the list. there are some other good ones he's done too, mostly early stuff.

Okay I will bring it up,
How many shooting at or near theaters the opening weekend? How many of the Chicago City Theaters will refuse to show it due to security fears? If it plays at Ford City there will either need to be a whole lot of cops or it will be a shooting gallery.

dude.... what the fuck?

this isn't 1992. this isn't "boyz in the hood" and therefore you dont gotta worry about black people shooting at a movie theatre because they're getting extra rowdy seeing boyz in the hood.

IIRC, isnt this movie about some young/ish chicks in chicago who wanna do some positive stuff in the community in the wake of all of the violence going on in their neighborhood/s? what the hell part of that premise is gonna make gaggles of thugs descend upon movie theaters packin heat ready to shoot up the screen? AWWW SHIT MAN YOU KNOW THESE CHICKS THINK THEY GONNA DO SOME POSITIVE SHIT TO STOP THE VIOLENCE??! WE'LL SHOW THEM CUZ IN CHI-RAQ THE VIOLENCE DONT STOP!!!! WHAT WHAT?!?! * BLAM BLAM *

now if this were some sort of a meta-commentary about the (lack of) quality of your average spike-lee-joint over the last or 10-15 years, maybe you woulda had a punchline there.... but to pretend like this is boyz in the hood screenings in 1992? comeon man even elmhurst steve would facepalm at your lack of tact here.

remember, YOU BROUGHT IT UP.

btw, if anything you know that there wont be any sort of shooting up the screen @ the theater going on in the year of our lorde 2015 cuz you know they have those anti-gun stickers on the doors of every theater now and any would-be troublemaker would see those and go "awww shit man, we gotta leave our pieces in the car. y'all saw the stickers on the door! man they got us fucked up nowadays"

Agreed. Bamboozled is totally underrated.

I think Wayans' unnecessary accent drove people away.

Does Do the Right Thing actually hold up? I recently caught part of the movie, and it struck me as cartoonish, simplistic, and unconvincing. Same thing with Jungle Fever.

Maybe not but does not holding up make it bad overall? I see a lot of old movies that dont hold up but then I think it's all about the timing.

I mean, being timeless is great but there is a lot of dated stuff that was great in it's time. Especially comedy wise.

Like the part where they just start saying all the slurs? That was outrageous at the time. Now you can pretty much see that on regular tv

I dunno if you are breaking my balls or serious but any cast with Adrian Brody, Anthony Lapaglia and John leguizamo is doomed from the start. The acting sucked..the storyline sucked.. It was one of the worst movies Ive ever seen.. The only other movie that I stuck with til the end that was as bad or worse was that kiefer sutherland-jeff Bridges- movie where Sutherland's girlfriend is kidnapped.
