Agreed.. Trade Schwarber now.. Schwarber has a weak arm.. That don't improve with time. I'd package Schwarber and Baez in a deal for a starting pitcher. Soler hits the ball harder than any cub.. Great arm, he's a poor man's Cespedes now but should only improve with time..assuming he can stay healthy.. He's locked up cheap for like 8 more years.

You don't trade Schwarber at all. You're not going to find another bat like that.

If they had their druthers, they'd probably want to keep Schwarber & Soler and move Castro plus prospects for a #3 type cost controlled starter but that does leave them with very weak defense in both corners. That is the obvious quandary.

As to who is better between Soler or Schwarber, Soler does seem less the "gamer" and more the injury prone guy. With his playoff performance, his favorable contract, he is probably the one to go which may be why they flirt with Heyward but are rumored to want Gordon, thus shoring up their defense.

Could they get Gordon for 4/60 or even 4/75? If so, that may be the way to go, then go hard for Price or Greinke and trade Soler/Castro/prospects for the cost controlled #3.

If they do that, they have good balance in the lineup with LH's Rizzo, Gordon, Schwarber, Montero and RH's Bryant, Russell, Baez/Castro and whomever they get for CF plus the solid rotation once they get another top of the rotation guy plus the cost controlled guy.

And it's out there today that Shark may be willing to take a 1 year prove it deal, which I can live with if he is your #5 making Hammel expendable (freeing up that cash) and Hendricks becomes your swing/depth #6.

I'd also like to see them take a flier on Doug Fister but someone will probably pay him out of desperation so doubtful they could get him cheap.

Bad idea. Soler is another injury plauged year from having his trade value drop like a rock.

I'm right there with you.

To me, the talk of trading him is silly.

Wont happen. Still predict a Soler/Torres package is the likely move if a big trade is pulled off. Also going out on a limb and say Castro doesnt get dealt.

Solar is an injury concern, no doubt... But the ceiling is way higher for him than the DH Schwarber.

Castro shouldn't get dealt, he's got more value here.. He can boot a ball @ second n still have time to recover.. His bat will get back to normal next year and he's not bad @ second.

Yes. This is quite something. A really good player(Justice) vs. A mediocre player who liked to put shaving cream on his privates and run around a locker room(Stairs). I get it now. OK.

Yikes! That's a terrible thought. Matt Stairs wishes he performed like Schwarber did in the playoffs his rookie year.

Why would Matt Stairs wish to drop every ball hit to him in LF?

I PREDICT: If they trade Soler this board will be full of Cub fan tears about it within two seasons.

Soler has the same problem Russell has...they're both going to be injury prone. It's concerning.

It's a bit early to declare Russell injury prone.

The CBA expires on December 1 of 2016 so I'm sure bringing the DH to the NL will at least be part of the negotiation, whether it gets done or not is a different story.

I remember reading a convincing case for it happening last year. Would not be shocked.

Id try and find a way to keep Schwarber either way.

Jason Heyward > Chris Coughlan?

Listen,I know Heyward may be the better player but do you really chase this guy with a 100 mil-something contract when you already have a LH bat on your team with similar stats?

The Cubs are NOT going to sign Heyward. He is not a leadoff hitter and not a true CF either. The money they would have to give him will be better spent on pitching. If they decide to sign a CF it will be a guy like Denard Span, who is a leadoff hitter and truly plays a good CF. He would cost far less and likely to sign a shorter deal, which is what the Cubs need, so as to avoid blocking the path for Albert Almora and the Martinez kid from Cuba. If they even talk to Heyward, it would only be to drive the price on him up, so if the Cardinals want to keep him it will be costly.

Wow....had no idea it would be that close. I wonder what the defensive stats show.
