It will be a trade for someone but just a little under where you're at. Just a hair. Those guys are 1-2ish. Im thinking 2-3ish

That doesn't work. It would have to be Castro and a real prospect or two. Once again, not a bunch of junk you don't want. Nobody wants Vogelbach. If he's so great maybe you should keep him and trade Rizzo or Schwarber.

Once again, Vogelbach is going to be a Rule V free agent if he doesn't make the Cubs this year. If the Sox wanted him, he could be theirs for virtually nothing

Hell, throw Castro in and they could complete the former Cub infield.

The Cubs currently have 30 players on their 40 man roster. That's plenty of room to add fat boy. Stop

Correct. Look for him to be moved this off season for sure however. He has some value. Could be a good player given the OBP skills and power.

Perceived power. Hasn't really shown much.

According to Jon Heyman...

"Starlin Castro will be the team's second baseman. They are getting calls of interest on Javier Baez."

I find it hard to believe Maddon is on board with that line of thinking. I would guess he wants Baez on the team and most definitely wants him over Castro if only one is going to be on the squad in 2016.

The Daily CCO: The Cubs Off-Season is Just Getting Started

Theo Epstein told Carrie Muskat the Cubs “met with at least six agents” of free agent players. Epstein said it is “still the feeling out period” of the off-season. The Cubs are believed to have met with representatives for David Price, Zack Greinke, Jordan Zimmermann and Jeff Samardzija plus Alan Nero, who represents Ben Zobrist and Casey Close, the agent for Dexter Fowler, Jason Heyward and Alex Gordon. According to Carrie Muskat, the Cubs did not discuss “hard years and dollars” with free agents.

I'm not sure what to think of the offer. You will be paying Gardner at least another 3 years at 12-13M a year on the downside of his career. His OBP has not been too great for a leadoff over the last 3 years. The idea works in concept but not sure it makes the most sense.

Castro is a major league hitter. Baez and Russell....not so much.

Maddon would orgasm if they got Zobrist.

I thought so too but last three years he played in at least 145 games

He's declining defensively though. If you're gonna get a CF for this team he needs to be a very good fielder.

Why not play Refsnyder at 2b? Castro doesn't seem that hungry to me.

Count me as a no on the Gardner trade unless it's him and something else of value.

If we're trading a middle infielder (which the Cubs should) then I'm hoping it is part of a package for a solid starter like Ross, Gray, mostly anyone from the Mets, Fernandez, etc.

Gardner isn't an upgrade from Fowler, and Austin Jackson could be the starting CF for cheap next season. I'm still not ruling Almora out from having an impact on the major league club at some point.

Shelby Miller....now we're talking. I'd LOVE for the Cubs to get him.
If you bring up his W-L record you will be sentenced to wear a Cheryl Scott costume and share a sleeping bag with Larry and Julie Dicaro.

40 man deadline is today and the Cubs added:

Willson Contreras C
Jeimer Candelario 3B
Pierce Johnson P
Dan Vogelbach !B

Left off the 40
Felix Pena P
Corey Black P
Bijan Rademacher OF
Daury Torrez P

and a few other guys who are not as highly regarded.

They also traded Frandy De La Rosa IF to texas for Spencer Patton RP

The 40 man stands at 37 so there is still room for a few FA sigings without having to drop anyone.
