Well, I would disagree with that thought. The only requirement for being a Christian is to accept Jesus Christ as one's personal savior (John 3:16), but Catholcism is a whole different ballgame. You come off as a lot more Christ-y than the average Catholic.

"sole basis" is the operative phrase.

And if you can show me where Jesus ever used the term "personal savior", it would appreciated. No one has ever been able to find it for me.

Well, I'm sure you get the idea of what a personal savior is:

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."

The average Catholic breaks half the Commandments before Sunday brunch, graven images, false gods, etc.

The just person sins seven times a day. So you may be a couple of Commandments off before brunch.

Yeah, I decided a long time ago that I wasn't going to base my decisions on how others acted. Or play two wrongs equals one right.

No.

I disagreed with ponying up dough being of most importance.

I'm talking to JORR.

Also talking about the 5 precepts.

But nobody keeps track of anything you do. The priest doesn't check your ID card before mass.

What do you mean? How does Catholicism square its worship of graven images (statues, rosaries, etc.) and its worship of false gods (saints, the Pope, etc.) with the Ten Commandments that explicitly forbids such behavior. No wonder the Bible thumpers don't consider you Papists Christians!

Who's worshiping statues, the pope or rosaries?

The prayer for the rosary is the most quoted passage from the bible.

Do you have pictures of your relatives around your house? Are you worshiping them? Of course not.

If you met the Pope, would you kiss his ring?

The entire concept of "saints" and praying to them is pagan and quite strange in a supposed monotheistic religion. Also, why do people kiss the rosary?

You're really stretching in comparing my sister's graduation photo to a statue that people kneel in front of.

you don't pray to saints, you talk to them. totally logical.

And no, I would not kiss the Pope's ring unless that was demanded of me for meeting him. I would not be worshipping him.

it depends on your interpretation of the phrase "believes in Him." The language thereafter certainly sounds like the conversion is immediate, no other work needed. Also Paul's phrase in 1 tim 2:5 would seem to indicate the lack of need for confession to a priest, etc. But we've had these arguments before. We stopped when you stated your belief in the apocrypha.

fairly clear that Jesus came to forgive our sins and commanded the apostles to act similarly in his name. Now maybe you don't believe in confession, but its certainly not something to get all hot and bothered about.

I think it's expected. And it's certainly Catholic doctrine the the Pope is the living representative of Christ on earth until that day when He returns. He is infallible in his role as the shepherd of Christians, isn't he?

The pope is only considered infallible under certain circumstances as it relates to formal doctrine. I'll let Seacrest get into the details, as I don't care. As the pope said himself, "who am I to judge?"

I wouldn't kiss the Pope's ring either.

And you are I are both a living representative of Christ on earth.

And Hatchet is correct about doctrine related to faith and morals. If he comes out tomorrow and says that it is required that I like the Wu Tang clan, then he is not speaking about things related to infallibility.

That's what I said: in his role as the shepherd of Christians.

 Did they really do that sneaky shit on the South side? I'm pretty sure Jerry LaPlume who was about 5'10" when we were in fourth grade was in my CCD class and nobody every thought of sticking him on the Queen of All Saints hoops team.
