The 1983 Sox actually finished in FIRST place in their division.

I doubt there has been a THIRD place team that has had a Rookie of year, manager of year, and Cy Young.

correct

1. Cal Ripken Balt.
2. Eddie Murray Balt.
3. Carlton Fisk SOX

So the answer is no they haven't all been given to guys on the same team.

Thanks.

Cubs continuing their historic season!

The Sox won the AL West but did NOT win the AL pennant...which was JORR's question. If you read the original answer that is what I said.

You made up your own answer to the original question solely to try and get in a dig-- a lame one at that-- at the WHITE SOX.

Wow, so much butt hurt. Cubs manager manages a team beyond expectations and the hillbillies can't handle it.

It's great. Maybe they can put the MOTY plaque on top of the scoreboard next to the Schwarber ball.

The Schwarber ball is going to be served as spaghetti at Harry Carey's next year.

I predicted that the Cubs would win all 4 of these awards a few months ago...but I'm just not sure if Rizzo did enough to win MVP.

You also "predicted" that Colin Kapernick and the spread offense would be the next best thing in the NFL. That lasted all of 3 weeks.

I would definitely disagree with that but I understand the basis for the argument. To me it comes down to Arrieta and Greinke and I think I'd go with Arrieta if I had a vote.

I don't think it should be Arrieta. He had a terrific season no doubt, and while his second half was just tremendous, he was nowhere near that good in the first half. I don't mean to say he was a bum or anything before the break, but still with he did not lead the league in any of the following categories-- innings, ERA, WAR, K's, Wins, WHIP. I don't think you can say "well this guy was the best pitcher in the National/American League" who does not lead his league in at least one of those categories.

He did have the most wins, Frank. And he was the hardest guy to hit.

Greinke probably had the better year overall, but the way Arrieta pitched in the second half when shit was really on the line, that's why I'd lean his way.

I think Kershaw was the leader in Fangraphs WAR, but Arrieta and/or Greinke may have passed him at the end.

I am arguing against Arietta. I think both Dodgers pitchers were better the entire year.

I stand corrected on the Wins.

That wasn't Maddon's fault.

Bullshit. Should've been Matheny.

I dont wanna take away from the job Matheny did but the success without Wainwright is more of a testament to the gm/development. Carlos Martinez stepped in and they didnt lose a beat. He was everything Wainwright usually is.

To me this is the most meaningless award. Managers are way overrated and this award is often based on media prediction/projection and how far off it was, which is inherently unfair.

So it'd be wrong to laud Robin Ventura for winning as many games in the NLCS as the Great Joe Maddon this season?

So there is now a decent chance that Maddon gets fired soon?

This is a pretty bad argument (you guys were a third place team!) Ive seen a lot of. They won 97 games and eliminated both teams in front of them.

You can just focus on the fact that they got swept by the Mets. They had a great regular season.

But I thought that regular season was the true test of who did the best job and the playoffs were just a crapshoot?

The best manager is the one who wins the most games in the regular season.

I do recognize he did a great job and think he is a fantastic manager. I don't even mind Cubs fans crowing about it as it is deserved.

The people that get me are those who espouse the theory that if it cannot be quantified it should be dismissed who then conveniently reject the notion when it is not favorable to their gut feelings.

I thought Sir did an excellent job of summing things up yesterday but he is a guy who has always balanced physical and statistical analysis.

Maddon's shit doesn't work in the playoffs. It's easy to manage on those gorgeous summer nights when the gentle breeze caresses your cheeks. But in the playoffs the weather can be nasty and a manager who can't handle that and sits in the dugout dressed like an eskimo and shivering sets a bad example for his team.
