Not shocked that you have gotten no answer to this post.

Nobody that follows baseball would take it..

 I don't want to wager FOR the Cubs making the playoffs in 2016 because I am not a Cubs fan. And you are right. Nobody that follows baseball would take that bet....right now. The season isn't even over yet.

Steve, you are the last person on this board that should be talking about bets. You have had more than a few opportunities to put your money where you mouth is and-- not surprisingly-- you puss out each and every time.

Also, the dollar sign after the number appears to be an epidemic on this board. I don't know where this all started, but $500 is the correct way to type dollar figures.

I never said they should stop trying to make the club better. That's a lazy conclusion to come up with, Kirkwood.

There are some Cubs fans who feel that a sustained run is imminent if not promised for the Cubs. That is simply not the case. There could easily be a scenario (Mack) where the Cubs win 92 or 93 games next year, and miss the playoffs entirely. The Cardinals and Pirates aren't going anywhere. The Dodgers have an endless supply of payroll and the Giants are still really damn good. The Mets are great and play in a division that is worse than the Cubs do. And then, speaking of the NL East, you have the Nationals. That team still has a ton of talent and could put together a great run next season. You also saw the flip side of that with how the Nats did this year. Now I'm not saying that it is very likely for the Cubs finish under .500 next year, but you get a couple of guys that don't like eachother (this happens on all teams, even the beloved Cubbies) and throw in a couple of injuries, and an 80 win team next year is possible. Again, not very likely, but it could happen.

I think this year's playoffs maybe showed some people that the Cubs have quite a bit of work to do in order to become a legit Championship contender. Next year's (or 2017's) playoffs are promised to nobody.

KUDOS to Frank..... this is a well thought nontrolly post that is spot on.

I agree with this, but still would bet they make the playoffs. Would i bet the house? No, but they'll compete and be in the race.

If a team is in the league championship series, you're a championship contender. I don't see how that could even be argued?

I don't think there should be a question mark at the end of that statement.

You're right. In fact, nothing I've ever said or written should have any sort of question applied to it. I speak in absolute statements of fact.

For the next year? There are a lot of examples of this not being true.

Then again, the playoff berth in 2015 could be the start of a run like the Atlanta Braves enjoyed while winning 14 straight division titles. it's unlikely in a division where the Cardinals and Pirates reside that winning the division 14 straight years (I know the Cardinals and Pirates both finished ahead of the Cubs in 2015) would be at all likely, but I expect several years (5-6 at least) of playoff spots for the Cubs. It all depends on how they continue to draft and develop players if they can sustain excellence longer than that. It's going to be a nice long run, with CHAMPIONSHIPS (the S is intentional) included.

I thought I saw a stat that the loser of the both LCS hasn't made it back to the playoffs the next year at an extraordinary pace

Thanks to the wild card, the chance to get into the playoffs and win a World Series title is much improved. I'll take 14 straight playoff appearances and be happy. With that number or half that many, a Championship or two should be had. Winning seasons on the North side are just going to be a given.

Rotation will set up for Lester to have two starts on the first homestand. Would send Lackey to the bump in the first game at STL..

I disagree. Hammel struggled today, but had a 1.24 ERA in spring training going into the start. If anyone struggles or gets injured, Cahill or Warren (as well as Wood and Richard) are ready. But I would not be a bit surprised if they decide to add a top of the rotation guy as a rental at the trade deadline.

"IF" J HAM struggles? How about when...he struggles.

Warren seems the most logical for an extended stay, but would love to see ANY of the kids become a part of this thing from the mound, in anyway.

I was at the game yesterday, sitting behind the plate about 15 rows up. Hammel looked like he was in mid-season form, which is not a good thing. Gave up a pair of meatballs to Cano.

I think they trade some of their AA depth for another #3-level starter in July, and throw Hammel into the deal to eat innings for the acquiring team.

Someone is going to get hurt, someone is going to suck, it is inevitable. could use ore eyes on Adam Warren, from all accounts, I see him becoming a starter at some point if anyone slips.

Keep Sonny Grey on the radar

Agreed. As I said. Need at least 1 more.

Not sure on Warren

Cahill looked...ulp...

This is a major problem still. Not sold on Lackey, and your 4-5 are at best innings eaters.
