So flipping around after the game most of the blame went to Fox. Some went to Gacy (notably OB). And Kreutz was the only one I heard say that Cutler lined up with a run and a pass, didn't recognize the blitz and checked down to the wrong play. I think Kreutz is probably right but who knows.

You kick the field goal. There are no alternate realities.

Look he was a terrible, terrible person, but I don't think hanging the Bears loss on Gacy makes a lot of sense ... I hope they at least played the clown noises when they invoked his name though.

Hey,Gacy is the OC,so he shares responsibility in handcuffing this offense.

James, Adam GASE is the OC.

Not Gacy.

Thank you.

Who would have ever thought that Fox wouldn't do the more timid option? Ne never goes for it.

I think the Bears themselves were shocked that he went for it.

WHat makes that decision even more ridiculous is that you almost know that had the Bears got the TD there, he almost certainly would have kicked the EP rather than go for the two points and the tie just like he did in Detroit.

This has been kind of a baffling season. I guess I don't care as much because I did not have high expectations, but manalive a different play call here or there and this team is absolutely in the Wild Card hunt. Oh well.

After the first few weeks of the season, Bears fans should be ecstatic that the team is 4-6. Unless you wanted to tank.

Going for it is 100% justified. They kicked all game and fell further and further behind. Kicking just means you still need a touchdown with less than 10 minutes left.

This. Going for it was absolutely the correct move.

Not kicking means that you are counting on scoring a two point conversion against the NFL's top defense with your #1 and 2 WR and #1 RB out...and that is only to tie the game. There really is no logical reason not to kick.

Kicking means you're still counting on a touchdown against same said defense with your same said offensive deficiencies when you haven't been able to score one all day. You also still desperately need a stop against an offense with significantly better field position than they'd have if you'd have gone for it and failed.

Kicking means you think your offense can get another chance to score against the NFL's top defense, and you still have to score a TD. Trying to score a 2 point conversion shouldn't be the main concern, regardless of what happened in hindsight.

and you would need two TDs to win the game even if you are going for it. One of those TDs would need to occur on a one chance only 4th down play (followed by the previously mentioned TPC).

Kicking would require only one TD, a stop and then having a full set of downs to try to move the ball down the field.

Making the two point conversion is boot strapped to the logic of going for it.

Sounds much easier than scoring a touchdown from the 4 and converting a two-point conversion! And even if you fail to convert in that scenario, you're still a helluva lot better off than you would be down 5 and still needing another touchdown.

Fox deserves a DBOTW for a host of reasons from that game, but going for it should be at the absolute bottom of that list. I was pleasantly surprised he actually did so, though I hated the playcalling on that set of downs.

Exactly gd.

The fact that the Bears lost because they passed on that field goal should be proof enough that the decision was boneheaded.
