That's still a lot of cash for a #3 starter with decreased fastball velocity.

Seems like Boston is going to overpay to get Price, but maybe he will take less to join the Cubs??

If not, will they cough up the cash for Greinke who seems to be a guy staying out west??

No one else out there is a clear #1. Cueto seems like way to big of a risk...

Very disappointed about Zimmerman. He was my choice. I heard Gammons say Lackey and Shark were on their radar.

Gotta trust their analytics on Zimmerman. He's good but 110M for 5?? They obviously felt the stuff was not worth the cost.

If not Price or Greinke, they probably do go Lackey unless Shark takes a below market make good deal. They then may look for defense in CF and if the Gordon rumors are true, then
Soler will be traded for another quality SP.

I still want lower tier Leake and a trade for a SP. One of those 2 can be changed out for Shark I suppose though I don't like losing a pick to sign him for 1 yr.

Just my opinion, but I think Shark has connections to the Cub organization and if he doesnt get some amazing offer, the lines of comunication are open, that he can take $75 mill for 5 years, instead of $80 mill offered to play in TB . (Just an example of somewhere he might not want to play)

Need the one arm to start the season in the rotation. Hammels is the pending 2nd half bust. Too much track record of a bust, have to plan on the 2nd half bust for him.

Thats when the biggest organizational move will be made for a pitcher for a player.

I'm thinking Cubs would go 1 year $20 mil or 2 yrs $40 with club option.

They still need to pay all the Babe Ruths down the road.

If shark wants a one year deal to pitch for the Cubs, he can play.

You are cool with giving up that compensation pick for a single year??

For 1 year I'll take just about anyone. I would be pissed if they gave him a multi year deal even if they signed everyone else I liked.

The Cubs pick 28th or something, not all that stellar of a pick, in addition when Fowler signs somewhere else, the comp pick they get won't be much worse than what they had at 28.

So yeah, I'd give up that pick. In addition, the Cubs could make Shark a QO after the 2016 season and if he declines, they'll get the pick back, albeit a year later.

Shark will want Zimm like money. 5 Years $110 mill. That money isnt coming. Shark will make the rounds and ask for it.

Meanwhile the Cubs will sign someone else.

Shark's market will dryup again...and he could sign a 1 year deal again somewhere.

He's like North, not as good as he thinks he is....will be his biggest hurdle.

I do not believe he is taking a 1 year deal and he isn't worth the money multi year money he will get. A Shark signing will make my whiskey taste different. Please don't make my whiskey taste different.

Fair enough. I was thinking about getting the pick back the next year. I guess it depends on how strong the draft class looks compared to the following year. Giving Kenny a pick weirds me out but the Cubs made out like bandits when they traded Shark initially so this could make sense in the big picture.

You get Shark and Hammel back and you have Russell and McKinney and all you gave up for those 2 is a single comp pick. It looks like a mastermind trade when you evaluate the entirety of it.

At some $ value, Shark writes his own ticket. 2 Years, $25 mill. he will have tons of openings.

Hammel got his 2 years $20 mill and are Shark has some similar trends. Both guys get hot, then when they fall off the ledge, it all goes bad....continuous hit factor on both is incredible. Hated it when he was with the cubs and hated Sox fan trying to tell me that 6 or 7 hits over 6 innings isnt bad....correct! Except when they all come in a row!

He just turned down 1 @ 16..why would he accept 2 @ 25? ... He turned the Cubs down last her for 5-75$ ... He can go get 4-65-70 million somewhere... He is not good, let someone else overpay this chump.

Of course I'm not blowing anybody or eating leather boots..but I give my word I will leave the board and never return. That's how sure I am that Theo is not dumb enough to give this buster a contract.

Has anyone seen what the Cubs offer was? Read that the Cardinals were 2nd in the bidding. Sounds like the Cubs really didn't make that great of a effort to sign Price.

I'm glad Cubs weren't second. There was no reason to be anywhere near $217M. Cubs made another smart move.

Yup. $31 million per year & $1 million per start is fucking ridiculous. Good luck with that Boston.
