I asked him some questions that wouldn't get him in trouble. He could be candid if he chooses. That's cool if he doesn't want to answer. Sometimes I ask questions that I know he won't touch. Hell, I wouldn't touch some of them either if I were in his shoes..

I'll answer anything....except personal stuff about other guys - like salaries and that type of stuff

I just don't get what my salary has anything to do with anyone or any question. I have always been friendly with this message board. If you don't like my work, that's fine....why attack me? I don't get it. I don't mind criticism.....say that you think I suck - I don't care - why rip on me about salary? I think everyone should post their salary and jobs before making any comment then.

People just like jerking you around. Sometimes it's a bad joke. Sometimes it's funny. I don't think it's personal.

I'll say this for Drinky. He never let money go to his head. He's the same guy at 48k as he was at 44k. A lot of guys would let that go to their heads. Not Drinky. (Like that Drinky. Another example of a bad joke by yours truly)

Well according to Matt Weber, he walked away from his 40k job at Staples to get into sports broadcasting, and it was the best decision he's ever made.

A few years ago, I would've said B&B and MJH were competing for the top spot in Chicago sports talk radio. Now, however, neither show would crack my top three. In my view both shows are in significant decline, though B&B remains superior to MJH, which seems to grow more formulaic, more out-of-touch, and more unlistenable with each passing day.

For the record, my current top three sports talk shows are 1)Mully and Hanley; 2)Silvy and Waddle; and 3)any Goff solo show. Granted, Goff isn't a regular, but I find him absolutely hilarious when he's solo, so he gets huge points for broadcast quality in spite of his sporadic hosting gigs. B&B ranks a solid fourth with me, followed by Carmen & Hood, Kaplan, and Memolo & Koz. I now consider MJH unlistenable programming, along with North, Mike & Mike, Murph, Dan Patrick, and anything involving the rotting carcass of Eric Casilius.

For as much as we disagree about everything, I believe that your assessment is 100% accurate, except that I cannot comment upon Goff solo as I've only heard about 30 minutes of it. Otherwise, your order is even the same as mine: Mully and Hanley, Silvy and Waddle, B & B, Carmen and Hood, right down the line.

Well, if you don't mind Drinky, my initial questions stand.

Why is it always Larry subbing for Terry and Drinky subbing for Bernsie?

Why didn't you keep doing the Saturday show even if Larry and Zack couldn't?

Well Beardown...despite my salary increase to 48k, I will answer your questions....

Dan prefers Laurence

Terry prefers me... I am off this Friday and Jason will sit in with Terry

Good question....I wanted to do Saturday mornings. I even would have done updates to save money...

Thanks for the honesty. I'll stop with the salary crap. You've been a good sport. I've listened to you on the air Drinky. You've been known to take some cheap shots. So I figured you could take it here. It's intended to be good natured from me at least. Obviously I have no idea what you make. I really don't care. Just bustin your chops.

Thanks for gracing us with your presence.

Does Dan prefer Laurence because he is a narcissist? That is, since Laurence's radio persona is wholly derived from Dan's persona whereas yours is only partially derivative of Dan, do you think Dan's preference for Laurence as a partner is indicative of his rampant egomania? Is Dan aware that Laurence tries to "out Bernstein" Bernstein whenever they are paired together. The audience is certainly aware (painfully so) of this dynamic. Why does T. Diddly only emerge from his coma when he's paired with you? How do you raise the dead so effectively? Do you disinter him from his sarcophagus? Or does Bernsie generally slip a roofie into Terry's Geritol before each show so he has the mic all to himself? And why doesn't Goff ever get a chance to co-host with B or B? Is Laurence Joe Frazier to Goff's Muhammad Ali?

I also think that Dan likes Larry because Larry constantly kisses his ass. Larry does this because he wants to be the guy to replace Terry. He wants to get on Bernsie's good side. That way he can ride Bernsie's coat tails to a successful show and a 6 figure salary. How many times do you hear Larry say...

"That's an interesting point Dan. I never thought of it that way."

"Wow Dan!!! That's a unique perspective."

"Hmmm. That's interesting Dan. Let me digest that. I've never thought of that."

Larry comes across as an ass kissing phony when paired with Bernsie. I think Bernsie's ego is fed by this. He knows what Larry is up too. He's smart.

He does this when, on the rare occasion, he decides that he doesn't want to parrot Bernsie.

Midget, Larry sometimes tries to challenge Bernsie. But often he gives up cuz Bernsie just sticks it to him. So he goes back to kissing his ass. He gives up on fights cuz he doesn't want to get on Bernsie's bad side.

It is interesting. Bernsie preferring Larry. It does mean that Larry has the inside track at replacing Terry if and when he retires. That would suck for the listeners cuz I couldn't take Larry. Even though I like Bernsie, Larry would ruin the listen for me.

Beardown on the mark. No alarms and no surprises here, with Larry trying to get the gig.

Your hypothesis is flawed. Bernsie will have little or no say in picking a permanent replacement for Terry if and when he retires.

It's not flawed at all. Drinky just told us that B&B get to pick the sub when one is out. That speaks volumes. Mitch lets them decide that.

Bernsie is picking Larry. So Larry has the most flight hours with Bernsie. Thus building a relationship. So he's getting the most chances at the try out. That certainly helps.

If you don't think Bernsie would have a say if and when Terry retires then you're a little naive. Not to mention that Larry has been the most tenured existing back up at the Score anyway. That helps him as well.

Aww shucks spmack. You say that to all the internet weirdos.

All of this being said, what is Terry? 55?

I don't know his contract situation but he'll go until he's 62. Why not? They have a nice show and Bernsie does the heavy lifting. The only way he doesn't come back is if he refuses the Score's offer. He'll fight for more and eventually take whatever they offer. He won't make that money any where else. It's a nice job to have so why not do it as long as you can?

So you don't recognize a distinction between choosing from two sub options--given to Bernsie by Mitch, I might add--and choosing a permanent replacement? If not, you're being silly.

Bernsie may have some say in picking his next co-host, but it likely will only be veto power over options given to him from a list constructed by Mitch. Bernsie will have no say in determining whether or not Holmes makes that list. I seriously doubt that Mitch will let Bernsie become another Mike North. To do so would stand against his own self-interest and the larger interest of the station.

As for your assertion that Laurence is the longest-tenured backup at the station, you are factually incorrect. That distinction belongs to Jesse Rogers. But even if you were factually correct, your reasoning would be flawed, as recent Score history has proven. Brian Hanley, for instance, was a backup host almost from the Score's inception. Yet his status as the station's longest-tenured backup apparently meant little when he was leapfrogged first by Bernstein and then by Mully for a permanent full-time position. Rick Telander also leapfrogged many "long-tenured" backups when he debuted on the Score.

There is little, if any, comparision between allowing a talk show host to pick a short-term subtitute and select a permanent replacement.

Someone's tenure at the station is also largely irrelevant in the selection of a permanent host.

So drinky, what's your 5-year plan? Where will you be employed in 2012? If you don't ge the next open host spot at the station, will you leave? What then? Have you thought about working in a lesser market like Grand Rapids or Green Bay?

I forgot about Jesse. But for the past 4 or 5 years he had a full time gig as the Blackhawk guy nobody listened too.

Hanley is not a good example. He always had his Sun Times gig. So he wasn't just a part timer at the Score.

Bernsie is an example of a back up that rose quickly. His talents were apparent and that was an easy choice. Hood got a regular gig before it went bad with Telender.

I do realize the difference of picking a sub and picking a replacement. But don't you think Mitch would want to pair Bernsie with somebody he's comfortable with? Just by Bernsie picking him to sub does have some influence on Mitch. I'm sure. Bernsie won't have final say but I'm just saying it doesn't hurt that Bernsie likes Larry. Maybe he doesn't like him but obviously he prefers him over Drinky. Drinky you need to kiss Bernsie's ass like Larry does. The hell with pride. A lot is at stake. Maybe you can catch up.

We're all focusing on the opening from a potential Boers retirement or death. Maybe Larry, Jason and Drinky can get the morning show once they unload that no talent, ignorant dumb ass making 1.5 million. His contract is expiring soon.
