Good. Now all they need to cover is 3rd base, Shortstop, maybe some bullpen help, 2nd base, perhaps a corner OF if somebody gets moved....

 :?

Is there a guy in the minors they are expecting to be the catcher of the future?

Navarro will be a step up from Flowers, but long term catcher is still a concern.

I never thought they would release themselves of Flowers the way they were talking about him. I think the price he would command in arbitration was just too high for his skills.

Dioneer and Avila could be a pretty nice catching combination. It definitely will be a defensive upgrade.

Two catchers who can hit lefthanded (Navarro is a switch hitter) presents some flexibility.

Brett Austin (Rodon's catcher at NC State), Omar Narvaez and Kevan Smith. Austin got off to a blistering start to this season and then cooled off big time. None of these guys are likely to be any better than Tyler Flowers at his worst.

Navarro is going to DH some.

Yeah it doesn't jive with all the platoon talk after the Avila signing, but it makes sense if his arb number was too high. These seem like short term fixes anyway, and really, who is going to lament the end of the Flowers era?

Flowers was projected to get 3.5 million in arbitration. That seems insane when you consider the FA contracts some of these other, better catchers are getting

Is Pedro Alvarez such a butcher with the glove at third that the Sox shouldn't be immediately looking to sign him? He was non tendered by Pittsburgh.

Bruce Levine and Bleacher Report speculating on a trade for Brett Lawrie. I'm okay with that move. He may be ready to fulfill his expectations. He hit 16 homers for Oakland, in that airport they play in, last season. He's young and not a free agent until 2018.

I think so. He was moved to 1B at times because his defense was so bad. He also strikes out a ton. All that said, Kenny probably loves the guy.

Alvarez would be a great DH. but sox are stuck with Laroche so doubt they will be willing to spend much dough on another DH.

He is terrible. Can't throw do to mental block. Had him at first. Sox should dump Laroche and put Pedro there unless something better is in the works.

Re-sign Jacob Turner for $1.5M. Its only $1.5M, but Sox look dumb. They non-tendered him when he would probably only get $1M in arbitration only to re-sign him two days later for more money.

Should have just tendered him the contract.

It's good work being a former pitching prospect. People are still willing to throw this guy a million+ with almost no hope that he will be even fringe MLB level

That seems like decent money for a complete bust. What am I missing here?

yuck

low power (for 3B), low OBP (and decreasing every year in the league), average fielder

I'd rather just go with a strong defender at the position

Isn't he also thought to be somewhat of a clubhouse cancer as well?

Well its not a White Sox offseason without a Billy Beane trade where all players involved wind up being mediocre.

Everett is a tough 2005 autograph.

they need to get something cooking. Justin Upton? I like, but not so good with the glove. I'd be in. for 6 and $120ish.

He may be the worst clubhouse guy in baseball.
