You'll have to desperately avoid it for 4 days next year!

Taylor Swift will headline opposite Mumford and Sons on Sunday night BOOK IT.

Huge money maker for the city economy.

They should run taste of Chicago next to it....make even more money.

Or pull a coachella and have it on two different weekends.

I guarantee that's what they wanted.

Chicago isn't the desert though, and residents don't want the Lollapalooza crowd and no use of the park for that long. 4 days is pushing their luck, I don't think there's a more universally reviled yearly event than Lolla.

sometimes you'll get lucky and one of the lolla acts will play a tangential gig at a local venue.... like that one time lyrics born was doing some dumbass festival and you basically got latyrx (lyrics born + lateef) at the congress on one of the other nights he wasn't performing.

then again maybe i'm mixing up my festivals cuz i'm sure lolla has shit in the contract where you cant do taht (hence the tangential part) so people gotta spend $100-150/day to get into the giant suckfest as opposed to dropping $20-30 at an actual venue just to see who you want.... with way less mud!

Lots of Lolla acts do after-shows, don't they? I don't know if they're secret or private or whatever.

maybe that's the case.... idk. personally i've never done one of these dumbass festivals and the only reason i could ever see myself doing one was if they got aphex twin. good luck with that, as i dont think he's done anything in america apart from all tomorrow's parties 2003 and coachella 2008.... i think it's at least $25k to get jamesian arse on american soil.

am i really missing anything? i cant help but think that these things are annoying and then after the pricey costs of admission they're going to price gouge everything to hell and back so if you wanna eat or drink anything it's going to cost you big.... and then if you gotta defecate it's going to wreek.... oh and pray that it doesnt rain, of course!

The after shows are kind of a farce. I saw Gogol at one years ago and it was the worst Gogol show I've ever seen.

There's an exclusivity clause, depending on the act they can't have a show in or around Chicago for x number of days before and after the festival. I'm guessing "the actual days of the festival" fit under that clause. I'm nearly certain E3 or whover puts this garbage on now gives the bands a few extra bucks to do a 45 minute show to heighten the experience, but are ultimately pocketing most of the money the aftershows make.

You usually get a pretty shitty show when the band is getting ripped off for the second time that day and is playing in front of the worst people imaginable.

I think the no-play radius is actually so large as to black out the Twin Cities. I recall The Current bitching about it once, and justifiably so.

The blackout makes little to no sense since it is a destination concert like bonaroo coachella etc... It isn't swaying the locals.

I would lay odds that if there is a Guns & Roses reunion next summer, they will be headlining one of the nights.

Rumor is that there is going to be an STP reunion tour with Axl singing. That will be Sunday's closer.

No. This is wrong.

I'm sure bagels would agree, but the after shows are by FAR the best part about Lolla. We go to see at least a couple shows each year. They are a great chance to see the bands at Lolla at a club, because, like you said they won't be back for at least 6 months due to the exclusivity clause. I look forward to the announcing of the after shows more than the festival itself.

I wil say, the "bro" factor does seem to be higher at the after shows compared to a usual club show, but it's still the band you want to see. Lolla doesn't control their set list or their energy. Gogol probably just didn't care when you saw them because that big fat festival check was weighing them down.

I remember when they got Liz Phair and I was super excited, then she just played her miserable garbage and only put Never Said (or was it Divorce Song? I forget) from Exile on the setlist.

That was the beginning of the end of Lolla for me. I also think that was the first (maybe second) year they had it at Grant Park.

I wish I could remember which Gogol year was the one I went to the aftershow for. It wasn't the Radiohead year. Either way, it was a dud. Soured me on the aftershows forever.

You are talking to (probably) the biggest Liz Phair fan on the whole board.

That bad set had nothing to do with Lolla. I watched her musical tastes disintegrate right in front of my eyes with each live show.......it's sad what she did to her career.
Have you heard her last couple albums? She freely admits that she is now trying to make pop/crap and abandon her old sound. And that was 10 years ago. It's awful. Vile.

Amazingly, for a woman her age, she is STILL super sexy.
