Weird how he stopped sounding at all like Eddie Vedder on "Sour Girl."

Drugs are awesome. Until you take too much of them.

I honestly thought he had died of a drug overdose years ago.

Hardcore drugs are bad. Years and years and years of them are really bad.

Hot take.

You have to know your limits. I did a lot of drugs when I was young, granted not as much as Scott Weiland, but I always knew when it was time to stop.

was he a heroin guy or one of those jack of all trades going through anything he could get his hands on?

hrmmm.... a perfunctory search gave me this:

“We were back in the States, still promoting Core,” Weiland writes, “this time on tour with Butthole Surfers, Flaming Lips, Firehose, and Basehead. This was the Barbecue Mitzvah Tour.” The gang rolled into New York City and “a few of the musicians had put in their orders for bags of China White,” and Weiland — who “couldn’t see himself passing up the delicacies that came with being a rock star” — put in his, too. That night STP dressed as Kiss at their show and Weiland snorted his first line before going onstage: “The opiate took me to where I’d always dreamed of going. I can’t name the place, but I can say that I was undisturbed and unafraid, a free-floating man in a space without demons and doubts.”

---

yeap, it seems like he found the life replacement circuit and decided to go that route. call it hedonism, call it self medication (the euphemism for "as long as i have this i can tolerate just about anything life throws at me") but if you get in deep enough that shit will claim your soul.

i remember once hearing a quote attributed to jerry garcia (from a deadhead/phish-fan junkie no less) where jerry was talking about heroin and he said "if you think it's hard to be a broke homeless addict imagine being me" --- in terms of him being on tour all the time and not just making enough $$$ to transcend functioning with the habit, but also having fans come up to him and offer him shit and wanna bang a bag with jerry and etc. he postulated that it was way harder to have a dope habit when you're jerry fucking garcia than when you're just panhandler X hitting up cars coming off of the kennedy @ kimball.

when philip seymour hoffman died didnt they find like ~70 bags of heroin in his apartment? that'll do it to you, i reckon.

I was just going to say that. I've thought he was dead at least twice only to find out he wasn't. I can't be sure this time either.

I will never turn off Interstate Love Song when I catch it punching buttons on the radio. It is my Shawshank TV equivalent.

Core and Purple are absolute classic albums, and there is a soft spot in my heart for Tiny Music...

Never liked Velvet Revolver, though.

Was sad to hear this but he had been battling his demons for a while. I listened to a STP greatest hits album a few weeks ago on YouTube
and it was solid well beyond the megahits. Dying in the back of a tour bus is not a good way to go.

In something of a coincidence, I was listening to that song when I read your post.

Agreed with both these posts. "Interstate" is awesome.. This was one group I always wanted to see. Love a lot of their songs.

They were a good band but his talent was gone ages ago. Sad.

I didn't listen to much STP, except for the song Plush because it was on the GTA San Andreas soundtrack and it reminds me of trying to get through flight school for two weeks!

My favorite band as a youngster. As many have repeated, this is sad but not surprising. He was great.

He did a set with Velvet Revolver for some shindig, sounded like a wet cat. His last set, he sounded decent...thought he had kicked a lot of the drugs.

I hear they will be having a candlelight vigil tomorrow night ... it's bring your own spoon though.

... sorry ...
