That's one -- Soler for Miller -- that seems doable. Worth noting, Soler's played RF whole career. Wither Markakis? David O'Brien added,
Jerry Crasnick @jcrasnick
#Braves are smitten with Jorge Soler, person said. Julio Teheran likely wouldn't get it done. Could Miller spark interest from #Cubs?

I LOVE Soler and think he's going to be a monster BUT they already have tons of power so for Miller i think I'd pull the trigger.

I feel ok with trading Soler but as I type that I feel like he might hit 300 homeruns

In a corner outfield spot with less than exceptional defense. For an organization that has a lot of potential corner outfield depth. Kris Bryant has a 50/50 shot at playing 1,000+ games in the outfield for his career, if not far more. And Schwarber is not an MLB catcher, and you wouldn't want him to be if Willson Contreras is the real deal. McKinney, Dewees, Martinez, Jimenez, Happ...all pieces the Cubs have down the road as well. Soler is the type of asset that could return you excellent, cost controlled pitching.

As Cubs fans, we cannot fall in love with every young, promising asset. Hopefully, many spend long, successful careers with the Cubs. But they can't all.

Agreed. Just have to trust their ability to evaluate talent both their own and elsewhere.

Either teams value Soler far higher than I do or Theo is employing his vast network of media shills to drive up his price....because yes, a durable pitcher with some great moments and warts usually does get it done in trading for an OF with some great moments but lacks durability and has warts

By the way, I had a rep in today trying to sell us on pension plans. He was a Boston guy and started up with "how about the Cubs. Theo's going to do for you what he did for us." I guess it was a statistically good try on his part.

He did a pretty good job in 2015. His velocity increased and he was effective out of the bullpen as well as in spot starts. I like the idea of bringing him back on a very affordable deal.

That's a steal @ 2 million for year.

Its going to take more than Soler for Miller.

Yes it is gonna take a throw in or two like Strope and Alacantara to start with. I would. Yesterday.

During pre- Winter Meetings talk w reporters Theo Epstein said Javier Baez will play CF in Puerto Rico this winter

I've heard that he's looked real smooth out there when playing it briefly so an excellent idea.

3 strikeouts a game is the same if the guy is playing CF or 2B.

Agreed, some some Sox fans are pretty clueless.. Probably the same ones who backed Jorge Zimmerman .

2 million for a guy who can spot start or go long -short relief with pretty decent stuff is a steal.. 2 million is less than What Alex Avilla will make this year, less than what Gordon Mendoza made last year and about 1\8 of what the Guppy made last year .

You gotta really like that it's only 2 years. Lackey is 37 and had Tommy John in 2012. Since then he's been remarkably durable and pretty good. If he's able to continue that this signing is a steal. Problem is that's an awfully big if for a guy his age with a major arm surgery.

Great signing. Low risk. High reward. Better than dumping 7 and 250 mil on a bad deal.
