Chicago Cubs and Philadelphia Phillies third basemen Kris Bryant and Maikel Franco have filed grievances with the MLB alleging their teams kept them in minor league to purposefully delay their free agency, reports Yahoo Sports’ Jeff Passan.

Bryant, the National League Rookie of the Year, made his MLB debut on April 17 and accrued 171 days of service time. A full year is comprised of 172 days. As a result, Bryant will not reach free agency until 2021 instead of 2020.

Bryant doesn't believe in The Plan.

Tough shit Kris. Take it up with your union for negotiating that in. Guess you'll have to wait an extra year for generational wealth.

I would guess that all the sunshine and balloons that was last season will slowly fade away bit by bit. It is baseball and business will always erode good feelings. I may not make a difference or hinder expectations but it is bound to be less fun when all the business goes on.

Bryant's grievance may have legs.....if the starting 3b (Olt) didn 't actually have a broken bone sending him to the DL. I'm sure they were manipulating his service time but Olt getting injured actually fell into their lap at exactly the right time.

It's called Bryant being a good soldier for the Players Union and the Cubs using the rules allowed to them by the CBA. It's a leverage move to negotiate the new CBA to eliminate or change this 'loophole' Nothing to see here.

199 strikeouts can be argued they called him up too early.

Might even say Bryant didnt want to, but understands he has to.

Its like when the worlds 2nd greatest living human wanted to play 1st for the Cubs and the Union said, dont you dare sign a cheap deal just because you want to play there.

As I said at the time, when the Cubs start talking extension with Bryant, my first demand if I'm him is to pretend like he was eligible one year earlier.

Otherwise, hello New York or Los Angeles.

Lots of posts concerning baseball in 2016 and beyond from the self proclaimed " I am done with baseball after the 2015 season" guy.

Just sayin......

I'm done with Hillary Clinton too but I'll still talk about it.

I do not intend to attend a single baseball game next year. Just sayin.....

PERSONALLY if I were Bryant, I would charge the Cubs a premium when the time came. But that's just how I roll. You fuck me, I fuck you.

Cubs have a history of unethical treatment of their employees under rickets ownership

Good thing this isn't one of those cases, given what they did was collectively bargained.

Looks like someone is desperate to have his stay with the Cubs be as short as possible.

That's how it usually works anyway. If he's what he's cracked up to be hell never make it to FA anyway.

This was filed in April and is nothing new. The case has no merit. The Cubs made a business decision in their best interests. They were fortunate to have had Olt get hurt just as the time Bryant could be called up without the Cubs losing the extra year of control arrived. Boras filed the grievance because it was in his clients best interest, I'm pretty sure the Union encouraged this as well. I doubt this will have any effect on future negotiations. When Bryant is eligible for free agency, he will have all the leverage and then the Cubs will have to bend over and lube up. But for the next several seasons he will be toiling for modest wages, while helping the Cubs win many games and hopefully a title or two. Bryant, Rizzo and Schwarber make the heart of their lineup one heck of a lot of fun to watch. There is no trouble, but Paradise......that is certainly located at Clark & Addison.
