I'm okay with that if I'm the Cubs. You know he will play his ass off for new money.

or are the Cubs pulling the old Theo/Cashman trick ...driving up the price for the Cards?

Heyward's agent Casey Close and Excel Sports Management also rep Alex Gordon and Fowler so they know the market and what offers are out there from other teams

Jessie Rodgers just said that he thinks that The edge goes to the Cubs for signing this guy. Over the Cardinals. Carm asked him about the latest Theo is just in it to drive up the price on the Cardinals. Jessie didn't think that applied. The Cubs will end of signing this guy, and then we'll find out the Cardinals were only in it to drive up the price on the Cubs!

No way in Hell do I give anyone a 10 year contract. I'd rather see Coghlin out in RF platooning with Soler.

Hearing talk that Jason Heyward isn't looking for 10 years at $20M/year. More like $24M/year for 8 or 9 years.

:shaking2: Uh, I don't think the Cubs want any of that. Have any of these MEGA deals for guys like this EVER worked
out well? Thinking ARod, Pujols, Cano.....

Manny's deal with Boston worked out pretty well for them.

Not trying to be that Sox fan but I have been saying Heyward is not that much of a star for this money and length that is being talked about. I would think Soriano before the contract is 2/3 done.

The ARod deal won the Yankees a title.

Nah ... I'm pretty sure it can already handle double-digit Cubbie runs scored.

I'll help him with the move from St. Louis to Chicago if that's the case.

I hope he goes elsewhere. 20-25M per year for 8-10 years is insane for this guy.

A Soler/Coghlin tandem gives you better production.

I think $20-24 mil/per for 8-10 years could end up looking like a steal for this guy...He's only 26 and seems to be coming into his own. Crawford has a .291 average over a 14 year career...he hasn't been a HOF'er but he's been pretty damn good...I'd take .291 average for the next 8 years with a 6+ WAR.

Nats are in the mix and he's going to get $200+mil...

Wonder if the Cubs are really in on this or not...

Weird market. Only 26 but it seems like he's been around for 12 years because he broke in at 19. At some point in the next 5 years he'll go 40-120. He's been hitting 475 foot bombs since he was 15 years old. I see a Konerkoesque coming into who he is.

the last time Theo was given carte blanche in the free agent market was a disaster...but it was the owner's fault for giving him all that money and telling him to spend it.

Cards have made the $200 MIL offer. Not sure that gets him though...I'd say the Nats are the favorites.

Why would they go $200 million for a player that is much less a need but balk on it for Price?

Age. Plays every day. Cubs outfield defense currently is atrocious. Less likely to have a serious injury.
