Is there a more underrated movie franchise than the X-Men? I think this will be the 6th X-Men movie and as far as I remember only the 3rd one was bad. How many other movie franchises can say that? And yet, X-Men never gets the hype that Spider-Man, The Avengers, Iron Man, Batman, Superman or Captain American get.

The first 3 X-Men movies were all pretty bad. X2 was decent, but 1 and 3 were not very good at all.

Time for you to get banned again.

1 was average but a good start.
2 was good
3 was Brett Ratner.

Put the crack pipe down.

You're dogshit.

At least get the title of the movie right.

Correct.

Plus, they've all been pretty much made obsolete by the last installment.

I'm not really sure why they need to shoehorn Mystique into this movie ... well, I know why but still.

2016 great year for cape movies:

Deadpool
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
Captain America: Civil War :bounce:
X-Men: Apocalypse
Suicide Squad
Doctor Strange
Gambit

I'm not counting that as an X-Men movie.

As for X-men movies..

1 was solid and a good start.
2 was good
3 sucked
First class was fantastic
Days of future past was very good

Compare that to any other franchise and I think Xmen holds up vs just about anyone.

For fun, and for the love of God not said to foster any real arguement, I think before it's all said and done the Avengers (largely on the back of the Captain America movies) will be leaps and bounds above the X-Men run.

That said, I get the impression that the DC movies will be grittier and maybe more interesting movies still.

Who knows.

All that matters right now is Star Wars anyway.

Yeah, the while Star Wars thing....

The sick and violent side of me wants that movie to fizzle and fade away. Not outright tank but do average and below expectations.

I think Shakes was right on in his X-men assessment. I enjoyed the first Wolverine movie up until the final 25 minutes. The 2nd Wolverine movie was even better up until the final 25 minutes. Both of them ended bad.

As far as Superhero movies go,I have my faith in the Russo Brothers who shocked me with the last Captain America movie. This Civil War one looks great too. They seem to add a "real world" grittiness to their movies. Looking forward to Deadpool, too. The latest Batman/Superman trailer soured me a bit on that movie. "Is she with you?"..."I thought she was with you!" = some very weak writing. That punk playing Lex Luthor looks horribly miscast.

Avengers are not off to a great start. That last movie was pretty meh. Second Captain America movie wasn't anything special either.

Also seems like those franchises are working off bigger budgets than the X-Men movies.

DC, who knows? Based on their track record I'm not inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt.

i agree with shakes about "avengers"; first one was a hoot, second one collapsed under its own weight. "x-men" has a really nice palette of characters, especially since the elders (magneto and x) are so interesting by themselves.

i'm not sure about the future of the "x-men" franchise though. i didn't really need to see another one after "days of future past" but if this one's handled well, i'm sure it'll be good.

Fuck the X Men,until they are back into the control of Marvel nothing will be correct with them add into the fact they are the lamest winiest heroes outside of Spiderman.
If you do not like the second Capt movie then I kind of think you do not like cape movies. I was not a big Capt fan till the first movie. That scene in the second movie in the elevator was spectacular. Almost as good as something you see in a Bond film.
The other nice touch was the notebook.
See the main problem with DC heroes teaming up is that they all basically, except for Batman have godlike powers. If you read JLA the dumb down Supes a lot to make it where he needed help.It is one of the reasons why they got rid of Hal Jordan, he was too good of a Lantern so they got someone with more limited powers who would work in the team environment. The reason why the Avengers and other Marvel groups work is because Marvell heroes are basically fucked up damaged people,Batman would fit right in.

X-Men 1 was good. 2 was passable. 3 was bad.

But First Class and Days of Future Past were both solid.

X-Men has the advantage over Avengers in that it has a way better cast. They all suffer from character bloat, but when you have McAvoy, Fassbender, Stewart, McKellin, and Jackman you can get away with it easier.

I will give you Stewart and McKellin. Downey blows them all away , and Evans when he was cast the last time there was people bitching about a possible miscast was when MaKeon was cast as Batman, with the same results. He totally owned the role. The Avenger supporting cast characters are way way more interesting and well rounded than anything in the X Men. Ditto for the Villains. XMen villains so far has been the same, government aka adults are afraid of us because we have powers and want to use us. They totally fucked up the casting by making the majority of the XMen adults , should have went with how the comics had them, teens then all the emo shit would have made sense and came across instead of like it wound up.

Almost forgot, Jackman is a poor mans Russel Crowe

Downey doesn't blow them away, but even if he did there are still 5 X-men actors better than the next best Avengers Actor.

Agree on this. I liked the first Avengers quite a bit, the second was bloated and had just too much of the Joss Whedon "wit" (ugh) and "humor." Most of it wasn't funny and really helped kill any momentum the movie had.

There is nothing wrong with Evans as Cap and Hemsworth as Thor. They do a fine job.

Evans is great as Cap. It's really his defining role.

You guys are forgetting Ruffalo as Dr. Banner. Solid.

MCU also has Anthony Hopkins as Odin.

I'll give the Xverse McKellen, Stewart & Jackman. Hell, I'll even give you Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool. But after that it's MCU.

It's his defining role because it's the only one he's good in.
