Cubs fans already planning their next move after Heyward opts out, you guys are relentless.

Not for a long time. The White Sox signed him for 5y $23.5m last offseason. Heyward will likely be a free agent again before Eaton.

We don't want Heyward to block Eloy Jimenez, Albert Almora, Billy McKinney or Eddy Martinez.

It doesn't need to be said because it isn't likely to happen.

Do you think Rizzo gets better? Or has he peaked?

Jason is one day younger than Rizzo.

Have the Cubs cleaned up the divets in the OF left by Soler and Schwarber diving at nothing yet? Or are they going to put them in a plexiglass case?

I don't think there is any question Rizzo has peaked.

Heyward has played on the MLB level for 6 years. He has had almost 3,500 plate appearances. The normal progression with experience doesn't apply to him because he has already hit those peak levels at an earlier age. His progression will only take place if he "trains" with Soler.

23 million per year is tied for 7th highest position player in baseball behind

Cabrera
Ryan Howard
Pujols
Fielder
Cano
Texiera

how many of the teams holding those contracts are satisfied with the production?

Sources: #Nationals bid $200M for Heyward. Another team, believed to be #STLCards, also was at $200M. Heyward took less to play for #Cubs.

and Zobrist also took less......

Why in the world would these guys take less money to play for The Cubs and Joe Maddon?

Opt out after 3. Heyward gets to get paid even more when he hits the market again at 29.

Not when they signed those contracts.

I assumed dolphin meant currently. Because I'd say few teams were initially happy. How many of those contracts had an opt out after 3 years?

Cabrera and that's it. The Tigers are the only team who has at any point been happy with the stratospheric contract they handed out. Jason Heyward ain't no Miguel Cabrera either.

He's going to play RF.

Soler is getting traded. Baez is going to get a shot at CF and likely somebody else they trade for.

he's not, but that three year clause should protect both parties.

I love how these numbers never include the number of years.

I'd be shocked if the two teams offered $25 million a year.

Sounds like its probably front-loaded if he's got a 3-year opt-out.

So, he's probably getting $25+/year for those first 3.

My sources tell me that the rumor is that the current speculation is there are strong indications that the Cubs are leaning heavily toward trading Soler.

So, they will have a DH in LF, a RF in CF, a RF at 3B and a utility player at 2B

You can't have everybody making huge dough, Soler is locked up for like ten years @ 29 million.
