Enjoying a Out of Your Gourd pumpkin Porter. Damn good. Also picked up a sixer of O Fallon Smoked Porter, which is one of the best Smoked beers I've had.

whenever i'm on the east coast i always visit the victory brewery with my buddy out there. my absolute favorite on tap is the dirt wolf double IPA. similar flavor to lagunitas maximus, hop stoopid or zombie dust. i don't know what it is about that flavor but it's like nectar of the gods. especially when it's cold.

it seems like out here we just get golden monkey and hop devil from victory (occasionally i'd see hop wallop) but dirt wolf is the tits. only comes in 4 packs now (i guess that's typical of the doubles though).

The real question is whether or not W_Z has enough mead to get through the holiday weekend. :eye:

DirtWolf is all over the place here. Has been for a couple years.

Yes. In 2008 you could walk into any Binny's and a 4-pack was sitting on the shelf. Now motherfuckers are lining up the night before just to by a bottle or two. No thanks.

My buddies went to FOBAB on Saturday. They tried all of this year's varieties. The Proprietors is the best.

I agree. The choices have really become overwhelming. I don't invest too much into it. I usually try a local brewery when I go out and when I like something, I try their other beers. Same with local beer tastings.

Wins - Ale Asylum, Revolution. Light the Lamp Brewery in Grayslake.

Keep it - Stone...anything with ridiculous non-beer flavors like Bourbon or milk. I also think Two Brothers is just average

Awesome. I can reciprocate. Would love to try any hoppy offerings from them.

Unfortunately, schedule complications prevented me from making any significant beer runs this weekend. I am hoping to hit Treehouse before Christmas, though. If I do, I will send some your way.

+1

I'm also a big fan of Tighthead Brewery in Mundelein.

Wobble and Sidekick are good staples. Tighthead would be better if I could find their bombers fresher than February.

Up in the far northern reaches of Lake County, it's on tap at a lot of places...I think the last time I had a bomber it was in February...

You can occasionally find Chilly Waters on tap around Palatine. I would buy that or Irie if they sent out more bomber shipments.

The Sixth Glass Quadruple Ale

Going to Binny's to buy out the rest if they have any. Not sure if this one has been created as a phony "scarce" beer or not.

You should join www.untappd.com, and review your beers there.

You do exactly what you did here. Give each beer a rating, and a brief description, if you like.

Exactly. The rating even goes up to 5, just like he did.
He even used the .25 step.

Hmmmmmm......... :drunken:

Had a couple Leinenkugel cranberry gingers while shopping yesterday. There were good. That is all.

I asked the Whole Foods guy if they had any Christmas beers. He pointed out a couple and then said his favorite was Great Lakes Christmas Ale.

Solid pick. Kind of a medium-bodied "ale" for lack of a better word. Not as hoppy as an IPA, but along those lines. Very slight fragrance of ginger and citrus?? Piney? I couldn't really ascertain what it was exactly, but definitely had a christmas cookie hint to it.

you could drink 2-3 of these without getting a jaded palette. the MOR drinkers should be able to drink without too much Grimace-ing.

4/5

I haven't had the Great Lakes Christmas in a couple of years. It was pretty good from what I remember.

I always liked the Anchor Steam Christmas Ale...that's another one I haven't had in some time.

I would suggest a bomber of the Double Daisy Cutter if you can find it...it's terrific.
