Oh come on. Now you are gonna join the fight against OBP?

Obviously, OBP is "good" in a vacuum, but how you arrive at it is a different discussion. The Royals are making a case against the fetishization of the walk and taking pitches for the sake thereof.

Strikeouts are "bad" in a vacuum.

For a hitter, theyre bad period.

Only in a vacuum, sir.

You wouldn't want to hit into a double play, so you strikeout to allow the next person to hit the purest best outcome, a home run.

In fact... putting the ball in play at all if runners are on lessens the chance of follow up hitters reaching the plate in order to have a chance at the purest best outcome, a home run.

Runs scored via base hit are just dumb luck.

Its not just good. It correlates with winning more than any other stat. Maybe it wont be as overwhelmingly important in this era, but the way people keep quoting Heyward's average and leaving out the obp is ignorance.

The 2016-17-18 playoffs are promised to nobody. On paper, the Nationals were the best team in MLB going into 2015. How did that work out for them?

Look, a young Cub team surpisingly went to the NLCS and now they're filling holes in free agency. I dont see how it goes wrong

Well, there was no playoff run in baseball history that was more dominating.
