What movie isn't these days, especially the sci-fi and action films?

The new Superman v. Batman is a CGI showcase. It looked good until the character of "Apocalypse" was revealed in the latest trailer. What crap! How is this any different than Avengers movie with Ultron, in which all the superheroes were actors and the bad guy a CGI creation?

Still, I'll probably still go see it. They casted Lex Luthor well with the jerk actor who played Mark Zuckerberg in Social Network.

Well shit.......that was my ex-wife and my wedding song. Way to ruin it for everyone!!!! ;-p

the key word is "just". pretty much all special effects are digital now. CGI showcases can still be part of a good flick. the prequels were solely CGI spectacles. absolutely brain dead otherwise.

Saw the trailer last night in the theater for the first time. Gonna be very cool.

60 Minutes aired an episode on the new Star Wars last night. It sure seemed like the pressure not of success but of making something artistically excellent was weighing on Abrams and his family.

I saw that, it was a pretty interesting story. His wife ( who was hot by the way, pic below doesn't do her justice ) sure wasn't cutting the guy any slack. She might be his toughest critic.

They made it out like she was his toughest critic but I think that was a setup for her to say she loved the film. I think she feels they have a lot riding on this thing as well. If the movie is great, he will be the toast of the nerd universe. If it sucks, he won't be able to show his face on the street without a geek telling him. He will have to buy a ranch like Lucas to avoid demented fans. There is no in between.

I don't think it's possible to screw it up as badly as the prequels.

You have the original cast coming back. On nostalgia alone, Han and Luke and Chewbacca should be able to make any material watchable.

I'm not a huge star wars guy and my wife had only seen bits and pieces of the original three movies so we bought the first three on blu-ray and watched them in the past month. These were the new edited versions and not the theatrical release.

Many of the cgi additions were horrible. Like Sharknado horrible. We didn't even really have a reference to what was added after the fact but we said "Look, another cgi thing" a bunch of times.

The movies are pretty great and he really didn't mess with the important scenes but it still was a major mistake by him to want to "correct" the movies that didn't really need correcting.

I actually liked the newer movies besides the first one which everyone knows was garbage.

The hate for George Lucas is over the top but he also deserves some of it. I'm really glad he isn't involved though.

I think I have one Star Wars movie. It was one of the newer ones that was filmed with a digital camera. It looks fantastic.

I think if fans thought he was earnest in his attempts to continue to make great movies while telling the story they would give him a break. I think many saw the story lines and character creations as commercially motivated. You start to see a pattern emerge after he did something similar to Indiana Jones.

that quote actually is what infuriates me about fanboydom. that's what made me think of the "because it's 'star wars'" clause that bailed lucas out of any criticism years back. make a goddamn good movie and people will get off your back. i didn't *want* to hate the prequels. they were absolute travesties. so i hated them on that. not because i wanted to launch a self serving crusade against a guy.

Heck he started it with the Ewoks.

Lucas and his original vision for Star Wars was/is very different than the product on screen. We should all be placing roses at Irvin Kershner's grave stone.

Lucas needed and got people to push back and keep his best ideas on screen and his worst ideas in the dumpster where they belonged. That whole thing was reversed for the prequels and it showed.
