I've never understood how someone who has the physical and mental makeup to attend one of the military academies would ever have the desire to be a cheerleader.

While I am not a Navy vet, I work with many. The guys indicate the "cheerleader quality" talent in the enlisted ranks is rare to non-existant.

I suspect that there is some "recruiting" for the cheer squads at the academies, I would think that some of the students had participated in the cheer life in high school, and probably nearly every girl has some level of interest.

I had a buddy who found himself on the cheer squad in college- he had been in Up With People (really) and was the super-outgoing, drama-lead kind of guy, in addition to being an above-average athlete. He's a bank president today. Back then it was like upping the voltage to his chick magnet- there was a steady stream of hot chicks lining up to jump in his bed, even two at a time (at least once I had personal witness to).

They didn't sign up to stand on the sidelines and look pretty.
