U2 Live From Paris On HBO

I thought it was decent.

I love U2 but I went to that concert in Chicago and just kind of liked it. The visuals were interesting but it seem like their work since the early 90s doesn't translate well to big venue concerts. I thought it was a nice gesture for them to bring Eagles of Death Metal on the stage. I liked their work. They looked like old guys but I had never heard of them before (admittedly I am not the arbiter of good music).

There is no reason for me not to like Bono. I like his work. I like his causes. He annoys me. Maybe it is the glasses

Aw, crap, I missed it! I'll have to catch a re-airing; it's not as if HBO doesn't re-air stuff.

Scott Weiland's recent demise just makes me appreciate Bono more. Bono has had at least ten times as many great songs as Scott Weiland and hasn't traded in that capital for a life of debauchery. You gotta hand it to him.

Yes

Oddly enough, I love Zoo Station. Its not a great song by itself. Its good. But its a GREAT intro to the album.

"Like a Rolling Stone" is the only other one I can think of offhand that feels as momentous, like a turning point for music and the way you perceive it as soon as the needle drops. Polar opposites, too, one is a slow burn, the other is a starting gun.

I always thought "When the Levee Breaks" should have opened Zeppelin's fourth with "Stairway" closing it. I guess they didn't realize what it was gonna become.

I would agree that it is, the one of 2 groups I never got to see that I really wanted to.

I consider it the best concert opening I have heard. Maybe I was young and living in the moment but it was fantastic.

Off the top of my head, here are a few album openers that seem to redefine popular music, culture, or the culture of popular music:

"Radio Free Europe"
"Bring the Noise"
"I Am Trying to Break Your Heart"
"Subterranean Homesick Blues"
"London Calling"

I wouldn't quite put "Windfall" in the above class, but one could make the argument...

No, that would go to Led Zeppelin with "Whole Lotta Love" off Zep II. Zep also has best song to end an album: When the Levee Breaks.

Watching this right now. Shockingly, Bono is listed at 5'6" on Wikipedia, which means that he is prob 5'4" or 5'5". Had no idea that he was such an elfin front man.
