What does he do? Does anyone think he is in charge of anything or has any real power?

They present Scenarios to Jerry and he approves them or rejects them. That's the White Sox hierarchy.

Usually he does approve them if a solid reason is given. He supports his people.

Jerry is also 79. So he wants the "Lighting in a bottle" type risk for each season. That's why we get these white guys in their late 20s and early 30s every god damn year. At reasonable salaries. No blow up and rebuild. Jerry doesn't want that shit. Which Kenny and Rick know. They also know, once Jerry dies, the team will be sold, and they're out.

I'll say this about Reinsdorf, he doesn't look much different than he did 20 years ago. Not saying he ages well. Just saying he looked 79 when he was 59. So now he looks good for his age finally.

But Reinsdorf strikes me as a guy that will live to 100. And will be spry and lucid at that age. So he should do the rebuild "Cubs thing". But you'll never convince him of that. Once he's 100, he'll say "I should have done it that way." Because at 95, he'll have signed Schwarber and Bryant when they are old and suck.

What kind of owner wouldn't want to make approval on big money deals? Any owner that doesn't is an idiot.

As a neutral observer, I'm sure if Theo went to Ricketts and said "I am going to raise payroll this year to $550 million" that Ricketts would be saying "Slow down Chief".

I think Rickets knows he an idiot and let's Epstein run the show and hes just signing checks. Jerry has been around the game a long time, he knows much more about baseball than Rickets and he has much more input in the team.
