I liked it. I also thought it was extremely similar to A New Hope through the plot devices and what have you.

Yet another Disney movie where they kill the parent.

I loved it. It will get better with future viewings I believe.

For some reason, as a kid, I never got really huge into Star Wars. I don't really know why. So, this was actually my most enjoyable Star Wars experience.

I went on a Saturday afternoon, and before the movie, there was a guy literally bowing up in down with excitement. He and his girlfriend were not disappointed. She may have been crying at times.

I give it 4 W_Z's out of 4 W_Z's.

Just got back from seeing it.

Even though it's the exact same plot as "A New Hope", I still enjoyed it. Yes, things don't make sense. Yes, them winning with little planning or skill, made no sense. So what? It's star wars. It's not about making sense.

Rey was the best character. She stole the movie.

I did love the ending. Pretty cool movie moment there, I thought. One that will always be remembered.

Usually the 2nd in these trilogies is the best. Empire Strikes Back was the best one they ever made. So expectations for the next one should be higher. As they had to introduce and reintroduce characters in this one. Which takes away from a better plot.

Does anybody know of a link to where I could watch this movie? I want to see it again to see some stuff that I might have missed. I used to have a couple of sites but they got shut down.

I'm guessing Disney has a full team monitoring the internet to shut them down when they pop up. But I'm sure they're out there. Who's got it?

How come when the not Empire was going to blow up the not Rebel planet the Rebs could only scrounge together like a dozen X-wings for the assault? Military budget slashed?

Apparently "the resistance (the not rebels)" are not fully sanctioned by the New Republic. There is a rift b/w Leia and the New Republic leaders...or so I hear.

Actually, the resistance is going against the First Order. I think the FO is against the New Republic.

Saw it a few days ago.

There's like, what.......3 bad guys left, max, in the whole galaxy?
The other 40 billion of them were killed at once. They can;t have any people or funds or ships or weapons left......

I thought it was really good, top 2 or 3 of the series for sure.
The 3D was worth it. Visually stunning.

My (minor) criticisms:
-could have done without bringing back pretty much every single character from the original trilogy. Save some for the next flick. Like....every character. It was too much.
-Kylo took his mask off too soon and too often. Should have saved the reveal for the scene with Han. The ending between he and Han was kinda obvious ahead of time, but still a good scene.
-I get it, Han and Leia are long lost lovers. Save the 5-minute awkward stare for the eventual rom-com spin-off.
-There were some funny lines/moments...but maybe a couple too many? Chewy was pretty funny though.

But again, those are MINOR criticisms.
Can't wait to see it again.

Good points. How the fuck are they funding all of it? I mean storm trooper uniforms have to be a lot of money. Plus all of the weapons and death stars. It's not like they do anything but be evil. That's their job. And there is no money in that. But I don't care about this.

You're right. The mask should have off for the first time for Han and only for him. That actually was a big mistake to take it off earlier and later.

I feel like I'm the only person that felt empty with no "Fox Drum Roll Intro". Couldn't they have had John Williams record a similar sounding drum intro over the Lucasfilm logo to avoid any copyright issue? I know......Fanboy Awakens, blah blah blah.

Also, like Spanky said, they should have had Kylo Ren take his mask off with the scene with Han, not the "Force Throwdown" from earlier.

I rank 'em: V, IV, VI, VII, III, II, I.

I wonder if having him take the mask off for Han was the original plan, but when they did the force throwdown scene it didn't work because Ren couldn't emote/show what was going on with the mask on.... but that's just my speculation.

Disney doesn't mind, as they're looking towards the future anyway. I'm pretty sure they're hoping Carrie Fisher goes into an institution or something, so they can move away from Leia as well. I'm sure the next movie will be Luke heavy & involve him dying. That will cause Kylo Ren to turn & the last one will be all about the new characters & moving the franchise forward.

Very good points.

I finally saw this yesterday and was shocked by Han dying, but it makes sense. No way Harrison Ford wants to be a part of this franchise for the rest of his life. He's pretty much rejected the entire Star Wars fandom for the last 30 years, so it was not surprising that he was offed. Disney probably threw a boatload of money at him to do this movie with the promise of him being killed off, and here we are.

I can't believe Mark Hammill got any kind of billing on this movie. He was in it for about 15 seconds, and didn't have a single line. I hope they paid him an Elmhurst Steve/movie extra salary.

The movie was good, but maybe a little overhyped. It'd be nice if Disney did some sort of backstory of how we got from the end of Return of the Jedi to Force Awakens. How did the new order come about? etc etc etc

It's in book form.

I don't know, it seems that most actors who publicly reject their iconic roles and state they would like to be finished with them (e.g., Daniel Craig), are just doing it for negotiation purposes.

Harrison is 71 and likely did not want to tie up his life for as long as it takes to make three movies.
